@David King
One of Mike Lee's positions I disagree with relates to the appointment of federal judges. He stands in the way of good people being appointed to the bench when we have a significant backlog. And he does so out of pique, not in the interest of the people.
The sale was a short sale, meaning it was sold for less than what he owed on it. Is Mike Lee going to do the honorable thing and repay the rest of his debt to the bank? Why is it morally justifiable to basically steal this money from his lender? I will never understand you people who will rationalize anything just because you agree with someone politically.
My truthfol outsider view.
What's Sen. Mike Lee's budget mistakes?. Eating to much jello will cause this you know. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), identified as a Tea Party candidate, was asked by Sean Hannity last night, "I think the American people want to know where, specifically, and how much, specifically, you think you can cut (from the federal budget)." Lee: Well, uh, OK. What we need to do is lay down the gauntlet and say we’re not going to spend more than we take in right now. Our businesses are doing this. Our families are doing this. Our state and local governments are doing this. Once we adopt the balanced budget amendment. Hannity: And that means defense?. Lee: Can't talk about that right now, am to busy, I have to push my book, and, come back later and have some Jell-O with me, in my Office with my staff.
Two word's.
YOUR FIRED.

"It's funny to me that some seem so critical of Mike Lee, and yet never offer a position they disagree with."
It doesn't matter the specific votes that you have handpicked when his whole credibility has been shredded by his own acts.
How can we trust a man who cannot even manage his own budget? How is he expected to help control the FEDERAL budget when he cannot even control his personal one?
How can we trust someone who ripped off thousands?
Mike Lee needs to cleanse the inner vessel first. Once he learns how to control his own spending then he can concentrate on Washington's.
This letter is full of baloney. It doesn't bother me that Mike Lee had to short sale his home because his income dropped, and I don't think that event speaks to an inability to handle national financial affairs. Now, it's his stated personal viewpoints and political platforms that speak to an inability to handle national financial affairs. I'm just thankful the man has no political power in Washington.
KDave,
"A kinder-gentler person could say that Sen. Lee is sacrificing his and his families comfort to serve his country."
Strangely written by someone who often writes comments about liberals that are not so kinder or gentler. Can I modify your statement so it fits my view? "A kinder-gentler person could say that Sen. Lee is sacrificing his and his family's comfort to shove his opinion down the throats of all Americans by embarking on a Tea-Party inspired crusade in the United States Senate." Just like any politician really. Nothing too noble there, just another attempt to shape the world in one's own view at the expense of those who do not share that view.

Utah Senator Mike Lee (R) on FoxNews Hannity:

What he really meant was; "YOUR families are doing this. But, I'M not doing this. and MY Family's hasn't done this."
That's what gets my goat.
A 2-faced liar.
Hypocrite.
FYI -- When I lost MY job 3 years ago, I took on 2 additional jobs so I could stay current with my Finacial obligations -- even though my house lost $250K in value.
But - I'm a LiberalL, I didn't cry to the Government to secure my bad debt.
I didn't walk away from my choices.
My integrity, My conscious - My knowing what is Right and what is Wrong tells me what to do.
I hold myself accountable to God, not what is legal or illegal.
Moral Compass.
For Mike Lee to lecture the rest of this Nation on Finacial accountablitlty is the Epitome of a Hypocrite.
@Ex Pat
"I bet is the first senator to really loose everything to serve his country"
Senator McCain can't raise at least one of his hands above shoulder level because of the torture he experienced as a prisoner of war. Lee bought a house he can't afford even with senators salaries.
@Mike Richards
"His pay is too little to handle his debt load."
I could've sworn that the very first thing Republicans wanted to reduce in spending was congressional/senate salaries.

I disagree with his stance on taxes, his view on the balanced budget amendment, his view on the Ryan budget, his view on obamacare, his view on abortion, his view on gay rights, his view on the stimulus, his view on the bailouts both bank and auto, his view on banking regulation, his view on environmental policy, and his view on energy policy. I'm not entirely sure where he stands on foreign policy though so I won't address that one.
I guess the one bail-out he voted for was his own. I worry that Mia Love will be the same kind of representative as Lee. Someone so narrowly focused that they won't work with others to solve our problems. We have got to elect people willing to compromise so something in Washington can be accomplised. Mike Lee just says no to everything.

Thank you for stating your thoughts. I would really like to see more substantive dialog on these comment boards and I think you both have contributed to that. We may not agree, but at least now I know where you're coming from, whereas the majority of the comments seem to be only interested in making the wittiest or most biting remark.
One idea: Vote for Scott Howell to replace Senator Hatch and at least we'll have one decent Senator in office.
one old man is so right. Scott Howell is a three term Utah State Senator with conservative Utah values. He has proven that he is willing to work with both parties to solve our problems. Scott Howell will make a great US Senator. I think some people are so focused on the June primary and they need to remember the final election isn't until November.

GREAT MINDS think alike.
I cannot believe anyone would defend him. To those who say 'he sacrificed his family's comfort to serve his country,' I am in awe. He made a huge financial commitment, buying a $1.1m house. From that point, he needed to chart his course in life to meet that commitment. He could have sold it, paid the loan, then run for office. Or, he could have found another big firm job.
I am a lawyer myself (making a fraction of what Mikey made at Howrey). There are other jobs I would rather have. I would love to be a teacher, for instance (which epitomizes service, in my opinion). But, I have a family to support, and a mortgage to pay (worth a small fraction of Mikey's). I could not go to a teacher's salary and make my payments.
And the kicker is that little Mikey does not want to do his job as senator. He votes against his conscience in some childish display of protest against Obama's appointment of Cordray. Lee should formally complain, then go do his job, not be the republican Rocky Anderson, protestor-in-chief. Better yet, he should resign.
A million dollar house in Alpine? Just how does Mike Lee relate to the so called "common man" with a house like that?
@mike richards. You really do not have any credibility on this issue. You do not evenly apply criticism and you are purely ideological when it comes to politics. Mike Lee can not be taken seriously when his campaign owes debt and he loses his house when it comes to budgeting. If he can not manage his own affairs then he has no place telling other people how things should be done.
That is like a fat person telling a skinny person how to lose weight.
