Wow NightOwl, that's quite a statement about BYU and its WAC schedule.
Who's been included in that schedule for the last 50 years but none else the 4-5 Utes, the team that lost to poor Colorado, the poor little school that could only muster 6 conference championships IN the WAC and MWC for all of those 50 years AND thinks it can do something in a 'big boys' conference.
Oh my, what are the Utes to do? How will they ever catch up to BYU's legacy?
It will take at least 20 years for Utah to catch up... at a minumum... if they win EVERY season.
Sammy what will you say when the U gets the national title? Or for that matter two?
Arm of Orion
I would be very happy if the Utes won an NC but it won't happen in my life time.
I'm pretty confident of that and no, I do not have a terminal illness that I'm aware of at this time.

54-10 ring a bell, you can't beat us anymore. Keep popn'off makes things fun, Utah has passed the Y by in football and in the next 2-5 years will in everything else, PAC-12 babby, stick with your Indy it makes you guys so much fun your football team means absolutley nothing in the whole world of college football. Start trashin the basketball team because your football team is not even close to ours.

"Oh my, what are the Utes to do? How will they ever catch up to BYU's legacy?

You win one NC almost 30 years ago, and all of a sudden you have a "legacy" that Utah can never catch up to? You do realize that even if BYU won every game for the next 21 years, the series would only be tied right?
You're starting to sound like Frank Burns, Sammy.
Duckhunter: If this is "awesome" then utah "fans" have pretty low standards for "awesome".
--------
Speaking of "low standards for awesome", why is Nelson starting at BYU when we would be a 3rd string QB at Utah State?
Spin it Ducky, spin it!
@utah "fans"
I'm not proclaiming anything "awesome" now am I? That is what utah "fans" do when they have pretty much the same lousy qb situation that they had last year. There has never been a more delusional "fan"base than the university of utah's.
LOL!
@Duckhunter
You were pretty delusional last summer claiming that BYU would steamroll Utah. Guess that didn't happen, huh? LOL!
@dontmuss
I never said BYU would steamroll utah although I did think they would win. I don't make many predictions, they have a habit of coming back to bite you. It is much more fun to constantly expose utah "fans" for their delusion and hypocrisy. That cannot come back to bite because that is simply fact.
@dontmuss
Oh and I just got back from watching a very enjoyable Am Fork win over Alta in the state baseball playoffs. Where was bingham?
@Duckhunter
You sure? I could have sworn that last summer you, or at least the rest of the "Delusional and Hypocratic" BYU fanbase, were promising a blowout lead by the strong arm of Jake Heaps.
Oh, and I went to West Jordan, so i'm used to being let down by my team not making the state baseball playoffs. Or playoffs in any sport but basketball. Ha. I do share your distase for Bingham though.
@dontmuss
I'm sure, no "blow out" predictions here. The only ones making those this year are utah "fans". Are you climbing on that bandwagon?
Delusional fanbase...
Let me make my point very clear.
A legacy is not built upon head to head scoreboard. It's an overall composite. It's really no different than you Utesies saying you can win a conference championship and get to a bowl by losing a few games.
Your ultimate goal being in a conference is to win conference championships. Right? That's your ticket to a shot for an NC in your 'big boy' conference. In the last 50 years in 'little boy' conferences the Utes won 6 football championships.
Ute Factoid... The Utes have only won a total of 6 football conference championships EVER, that's in over 100 years of football. BYU accumulated 26 in the last 50 years of the WAC and MWC and got an NC to boot.
What makes you think things will be different for your team going forward?
Please don't mention that you had a couple of great seasons... in a 'little boys' conference. It doesn't hold water when you discount the very WACish schedules you danced thru to get to those BCS bowls.
Can't have it both ways.
From 'awful to awesome'. Yeah, right.
Sorry Utes, I retract the UTE Factoid statement. I got my facts mixed up with the 10+ win season, old age I guess.
6 conference championships in the WAC and MWC in the last 50 years of modern football as we know it.
Again, my apologies
sammyg, I appreciate the retraction, but in addition to misquoting the Utes 24 total conference football championships as 6, I could be wrong, but I believe you misquoted BYU's as 26, as well. My count is 23.
sammyg,
I'm sorry but BYU is no longer a legacy football program. Neither is Utah so don't feel I'm bashing BYU. It has to be earned by both schools. BYU has to swallow it's pride and tell the Big 12 we will join on your terms (TV). Texas and Oklahoma will not play second fiddle to BYU! Or else stay independent and enjoy BYU on BYUTV, because we all know there will now be the big 4 conferences, Pac 12, Big 12, Big 10 and SEC!!
StGtoSLC
I had the figures of 10+ win seasons floating in in my head.
Since every comparison to BYU's schedule is 'WACish' and since the Utes came from the same WACish origins then I think it's all fair in love and war to use WAC and MWC stats. It is the modern age of college football.
So let me recant any unintentional misinformation and set the record straight. I have a Post-it Note handy, here it is.
In the last 50 years, wherewith both BYU and the Utes were in the same conference with the exception of last year.
conference championships
BYU 23... Utes 6
AP rankings
BYU 17... Utes 5
Coaches Poll
BYU 18... Utes 7
10+ win seasons
BYU 16... Utes 6
National Championships
BYU 1
BCS appearances
Utes 2, woopdy doo
So in response to who has a real legacy built in the modern age of TV and fan support I submit the above. The stats don't lie.
So again I apologize for my error but the point is the same. BYU has been to the mountain top in football... Utes have made it out of the basecamp a time or two.
sammyg, it is nice to cherry pick stats like that, and use terms like "modern age" to try and discount what one program has accomplished over their history, only because another program never had anything to be proud of or was competitive until LaVell became coach. By that time, Utah had already been a major contributing factor to putting the mountain states on the map of the football world with a hall of fame coach of its own.
But if you only want to start "modern age" as the time that Utah football turned awful and BYU became good, be my guest. Just keep in mind that football was around before 1972.
How about this?
Bowl winning percentage
BYU .400 (T-68th of 80 teams with 10 or more appearances)
Utah .765 (highest of 80 teams with 10 or more appearances)
Isn't it nice to pick and choose stats to quote?
LOL ...
