Good letter. Sen. Hatch is entrenched in his way of doing business. He has done some good things in the past, but too often has set aside the Constitution and "reached across the aisle" to support programs that make the federal government bigger, more intrusive, and more expensive. When we haven't agreed with him, he has scolded us for not being as enlightened as he is.

There's a big difference between statesmen and obstructionists. Haven't seen much statesmanship from Mike Lee. Don't expect we'd see much from Dan Liljenquist.

I agree with one exception: The writer says, "I believe it's time for Hatch to make way for the next generation of Republican leaders." The Republican alternative, Dan Liljenquist, would only give us more of the same, and in the view of many, is farther to the right than even Hatch.

I say it's time for Hatch to make way for a Democratic leader who will be more representative of the moderate views of most Utahns.

Hatch is a poor excuse for a Conservative.

He voted for the Patiot Act. Who's listening to your cell phone conversations? Ask Hatch. He thinks that your cell phone conversations are government business.

He voted for TARP. What did your banker tell you the last time you tried to get a loan?

He voted for TSA. How do you feel when you have to take off your shoes, your belt and then be probed or scanned before getting on an airplane? How many "terrorists" have they caught? ZERO!

He voted to allow the government to lock you up without telling you why, without giving you your Constitutional right to consult with an attorney and without giving you your Constitutional right to a speedy trial.

How can he say that he is conservative? How can anyone from Utah vote for him when he has willingly given away OUR liberties and trampled on OUR Constitution.

He is no Statesman. He is no Conservative. He is not needed by Utah.

Exactly right, Curmudgeon. Scott Howell will be the best possible replacement for Orrin in the Senate.

Senator Lee was one of the few senators to oppose the NDAA, which gives government the right to detain American citizens indefinitely without a trial. If the "statesman-like" thing to do in that case was violate the Constitution and due process, we could use a few more obstructionists!

Everything has it's time, the people have spoken. Apparently, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch feels like 36 years isn't enough time in Washington insider trading. The 6-term Senator is running for a 7th term. I, and many others, intend to keep Mr. Hatch from getting that 7th term. In the coming months, I will outline in more detail Senator Hatch's long list of grievances including: Medicare Part D, TARP, Minimum Wage Increases, Amtrak funding, 1st Amendment Assault, SCHIP, Cass Sunstein, Timothy Geithner, Internet Censorship, and much more. A majority of Utah voters believe Sen. Orrin Hatch, RINO-Utah, has been in office too long and should be replaced. Orrin's time as a senator has just about run out. Senator Hatch's reelection efforts would amount to a "blatant manipulation of the process." Orrin Hatch blocked me from his Twitter account after I disagreed with him on his voting record. Then the GOP say that "the people" all agree with them. They must think that because they block everyone who doesn't agree with them.

Happy Mothers Day Utah.

Like it or not these are my views.

Hatch, it's time to go.

The founding fathers took temporary leave of their families, their farms, and their businesses to represent "We, the People" in the establishment of a representative govenment of the people, by the people, and for the people." Their intention was to create a citizen government of our elected representatives whose roots run deep into the soil on which their constituencies have built their homes and lives. Government service was to be a temporary sacrifice away from home. Careers were interrupted, but renewed upon completion of their term of service.

Senator Hatch and Senator Lugar have attempted to overthrow the vision of our founding fathers. They have moved their homes to Washington and established their careers there at our expense. They have rewarded themselves on a grand scale. Would that we all could be so elevated above "the folks," as O'Reilly calls us. But the bankruptcy of our grand experiment will be the end ushered in by this crowd of privileged royalty. Let us put an end to it, and reestablish the vision of the founders.

It's funny that the anti-Hatch machine has become convinced that its strongest argument is, "it's time."

And how will we know when it"s time for Liljenquist, or anyone else, for that matter? Just wait until we hear from this same ageist amen chorus?

If no one can explain to me how Liljenquist would be better than Hatch -- I think I'll stick with what we know over some vacuous "brave new generation" jingle.

It's called conservatism.

What does Dan Liljenquist stand for? Good question. Here's the answer:

1- Dan has turned around struggling Fortune 500 companies putting them on a path to prosperity and has also reformed out-of-control-government programs.

2- Dan was the architect and sponsor of Utah's major pension reform. His reforms will save Utah billions of dollars. As part of this effort, Dan ended pensions for lawmakers. He accomplished this as a freshman senator. "Dan Liljenquist spearheaded a major pension reform that is undoubtedly one of the most important legislative accomplishments on fiscal reform anywhere in America in recent years."

3- Dan is bright, energetic, and accomplished. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in Economics (BYU), then went to a top 5 law school (University of Chicago). Dan began his career at Bain Consulting, where he helped failing Fortune 500 companies solve complex fiscal problems and thrive again.

4- Dan is nationally recognized as a leader who has the courage and know-how to fix run-away government spending. Dan received the National Award, "2011 Public Official of the Year" from Governing Magazine.

Some noteworthy facts about Dan Liljenquist. I'd say for someone who is ONLY 37, "major accomplishments!"

I have to LOL

The very same people who have elected, and re-elected Senator Palatine for 36 years write in and complain about how long here’s been there.

It also reminds me of Lady McBeth,
endlessly washing their hands, going crazy to absolve their own guilt.

"procuradorfiscal" This is ONE conservative who will also be asking for Liljenquist to NOT make the Senate a career.

2 or possibly 3 terms is plenty. Then its time to let someone else serve.

Hatch's 6 (7?)terms is beyond selfish. NOW its become embarassing.

I disagree. Keep Hatch!

Dan Liljenquist will have absolutely no influence on the senate. He won't be in a position to make anything happen of any significance. You may want Hatch to go, but in ousting him, be careful of what you're left with.

Why is working with Terrible Ted the so called Kiss of Death? The Tea Partiers would have you believe that Kennedy swayed Hatch to his side. That working with Democrats is a sin akin to murder. Not true. Hatch took horribly liberal legislation that had no chance of being passed and molded it to get votes to pass it from both liberal and conservative senators. When there are reasonably good ideas proposed that can be made better by input from conservatives, why not try to get it passed. Works out better. They my way or the highway approach now being practiced by the far left and the far right isn't going to make good government. By the way, I'm no moderate. I'm more conservative than all or you, yet I have a pragmatic streak in me.

Re: Flashback: If you're truly conservative, then I think you just shot down your own argument. If "horribly liberal legislation" has no chance of being passed, why on earth should Hatch turn it into a moderate bill to help it get passed? Why not just let it die of its own accord?

Yet your description is exactly what Hatch did. He "reached across the aisle" with Ted Kennedy to pass bills that grew the size, intrusiveness, and cost of the federal government. Liberal and moderate laws are NOT what we need - they are precisely what have caused the current crisis.

Re: BigRich: Liljenquist has the skills, principles, and experience to make a difference in his first term, just like Sen. Hatch did during his own first term. Liljenquist will do just fine, especially without the baggage that Hatch has.

I'm excited for Hatch to be reelected. There has never been a more important time to vote for Romney and vote for Hatch. They both represent the best fit for the job. It is NOT the time to send Liljenquist to a GOP or Democratic controlled senate. Hatch will fight harder than ever to balance budget, and have sway and fight for principles of the Family: Proclamation to the World.

I am concerned that many Liljenquist fans have lost faith in Romney, and feel that Romney will never win. They feel that Liljenquist would do better in a Dem. controlled senate. That is so wrong! It would take over 12 years to establish any kind of trust and sway in the senate. We need to understand the senate better, and consider what Hatch has the potential to do - in considering who to vote for!

Just wanting 'new blood' isn't good enough. This letter was written in fewer than 200 words.

Re: Apricot Tree: I'm not sure where you got the idea that Liljenquist fans don't support Romney. Or that they think Liljenquist would do better if the Democrats win the Senate. But these are a nice try at a false argument. Liljenquist supporters overwhelmingly support Romney. Liljenquist himself openly supports Romney. And Liljenquist will do fine regardless of which party wins the Senate (just like Hatch did in his own first term).

What makes you believe that Sen. Hatch will fight "harder than ever" to balance the budget? Yes, he has often pushed for a balanced budget amendment, but he has also voted for programs that have added massive amounts to our deficit, making a balanced budget IMPOSSIBLE. You can't have it both ways.

Hatch says this will be his last 6 years, "but it will be the best doggone 6 years you've ever seen." Why should we believe that?

It may be time for Hatch to go but not this year. Who do the Repulicans have to replace him? Dan Liljenquist givew me a break this man is not worth of being assiciated with Utah. He was horrible in State Politics. A vote for Dan Liljenquist is voting for another Mike Lee who is an embarrassment to Utah. Hatch at least came from the era when compromise was considered. Everyone today takes the my way or the highway approach. We do not need more gridlock. Hatch is the senator we need.

Re: Peanut Gallery - I wrote... "I am concerned that many Liljenquist fans have lost faith in Romney, and feel that Romney will never win. They feel that Liljenquist would do better in a Dem. controlled senate."

Here is one of the many examples of Liljenquist supporters giving up on Romney. I didn't say that they don't support Romney, but that that Obama will win and democrats will take over... I hope they don't say this any longer, now that polls are reversing, and Obama has supported same sex marriage.

This is from May 3, 9:27 p.m...

"The only problem with your first point is that Mitt Romney will not be President when Hatch starts yet another term next year."
