Abraham Lincoln waffled and hemmed and hawed on slavery until Gettysburg, after he was forced to make a decision because slaves kept seeking refuge in a Union fort, prompting the frustrated fort commander to invent a new legal term - contraband - because although slaves were property, he didn't want that property used against Union forces, so he let them stay in the fort.

There is a time for everything, and between the issues of bullying, gay teen suicide, and more people learning some of their friends and family are gay, we're seeing society evolve before our eyes.

The Emancipation Proclamation was on jan1, 1863. The battle of Gettysburg was in July 1863. Lincoln's view on slavery was never evolving, he was always against it. Why do you think the South went ape when he was elected president? He just had a hard time trying to figure out a way to free the slaves without a civil war. the South needed up making the decision for him.

If you are going to try to use history to make a point, at least make an effort to be accurate.
