My son is currently stationed there, and he has said the Taliban is alive and well, and many are living in the villages, just waiting for the soldiers to leave. It is discouraging for our soldiers to work so hard to train the Afghan security forces, only to realize that their hard work may not last. My son has said that they are well aware of who the Taliban are in their village, but they can't do anything about them, except to observe. Rules of Engagement prohibit any action. I'm just an Army mom, and I don't know what the answers are, but what we are doing now does not seem to be "it".
