"I find it interesting that those who ... condemned Rush Limbaugh for his remarks...are now ... quiet after Bill Maher's ...remarks made against Ann Romney."

And then there are the disgusting comments made by the recent Romney devotee, Ted Nugent, towards Hilary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. Who will condemn those remarks?

It seems that both sides include loud mouthed, borrish children who just need attention. To expect either candiate to keep track of all the disgusting rhetoric coming from those who say they endorse that candidate would be unrealistic and a waste of time. The best way for us to condemn and perhaps even stop that kind of language is to stop giving them so much attention. The media plays the biggest role in that process but all of us have a hand in it as well. If we quickly condemn the comments made by those who might be claiming a place on our side of the discussion and ultimately, if we decide to pay no attention to them and refuse to support media outlets that sensationalize those comments, then we might make a difference. But probably the best thing to do is stop keeping score.

I would encourage Tonia to do a quick google search.

Off of Foxnews's MAIN page:

"Bill Maher is facing bipartisan criticism -- most recently from one of President Obama's former top advisers -- for controversial comments he made last week about Mitt Romney's wife."

Please actually do some research and get informed before you criticize the "lack" of response from the left. The left is clearly more tolerant than the right.

Besides, no one watches Maher (he's on cable. You have to pay to watch him) while millions listen to Rush for free. Also, Maher isn't the voice of the Demo party like Rush is for the GOP. It isn't comparable, Rush went off for days on how this woman was a prostitute. Maher was offense but said in one line that Ann Romney had never gotten her (rear) out of the house to work. Offensive? Yes. Comparable? Absolutely not. Huge difference between slandering what someone had said before Congress and calling them prostitutes (with a host of other insults) for days and days and Maher's one lined offensive remark.

Finally, Rush was still supported by top political leaders while Maher is abandoned

Real Maverick beat me to it..but the two comments aren't even in the same world..much less equal. Rush called the young woman a prostitute and asked her to video tape her activities so he could watch them. Bill Maher simply said Ann Romney had never had to get up at 6 in the morning to get to work..while using a profane cliche to describe getting up early in the morning..and it's Bill Maher on HBO. One infers that the woman is priviledged, the other directly calls the woman a prostitute..not even close.

Rush Limbaugh has the power to wreck the career of any Republican politician. All who have criticized him have had to apologize profusely and take back their statements. Maher is not even in the same ball park when it comes to power. I don't watch him and I don't know what he said, if it was crude, I condemn it. But no Democratic politician lives in fear of Bill Maher.

The things Bill Maher has said about Sarah Palin can't even be printed in this newspaper. Don't talk to me about moral equivalence.

Bill Maher gave a million dollars to Obama's super PAC, and that's why we hear only crickets chirping.

The Left doesn't respect all women...only the ones who share their ideology.

Why are you bringing this up after all these weeks? This is old news. Bill Maher doesn't need me to defend him, but it really isn't the same thing. Is Limbaugh a comedian? Does Maher make political speeches before serious political groups? Does Limbaugh host a panel discussion on his show? Does Limbaugh profess to be a Republican? (Maher says he refuses to join a political party). Was Maher on the air day after day, skewering the same person each day? Stuff is said on both sides, but 1. compare apples to apples, and 2. be current. Old news is no news.

Google it. Lots and lots of commentators on the left have criticized Maher, including the National Organization for Women. I think he's a radically unfunny obnoxious so-called comedian who's an embarrassment to liberals. That strong enough?

@ Counter Intelligence, don't make things up. Maher is not on the air day after day. His show runs once a week on HBO and he takes frequent breaks. I'm betting you don't listen to or watch his show - maybe never. He is critical of Obama on things - he isn't definitely not the spokesman for the Dems, for the left, not the Administration.

Is Maher on the left? Yes he is. Is he the same as Limbaugh? No.

Why is it so hard for the right to simply acknowledge that Limbaugh is an embarrassment and that he is the bullying spokesman for the GOP?

And it is old news. Now you are trying to hang out the post office? Spare me.

Please stop comparing apples to oranges....

Bill Maher is a comedian, who pokes fun of both sides of politics, but admits to leaning left.
He made a joke clearifying Ann Romney did indeed work, by did it without ever getting her "rearend" out the house.

Rush Limbaugh is one-sided political hack who calls a woman a slut and prositute and regularly makes dirty "jokes" and isn't the least bit funny.

Big, BIG difference...

I am not really sure where thus letter writer has been but Bill Mahar has been rightly and roundly denounced by the left right and middle

This is how the elite control your lives. Put these political frontmen who are in reality on the same side, against one another and keep you in this fake fight while the elite remains unopposed.

This is the pointlessness that is Republican v. Democrat

"...And duplicity is NOT old news...".

As all voters Republican, Democrat and Unifiliated realize the mobius flips Mitt will produce as he slogs back to the middle, it will be important to remember that quote.

Maher said: "What she meant to say, I think, was that Ann Romney has never gotten her "bum" out of the house to work."

Rush said:  “What does it say about the college coed . . . who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex?” Mr. Limbaugh asked on his Wednesday program. He said this makes her a “slut” and “prostitute.” He has since apologized for his remarks.
The following day, Limbaugh even suggested that Fluke should distribute sex tapes of herself. In exchange for paying for her contraceptives, “we” ought to be able to view the videos.

The wife of the candidate for president has never had a job
or
Your daughter/girlfriend is a slut and a prostitute who makes sex tapes, and where can I get one?

Yep, exactly the same? How is it people who listen to rush and his band of spinmasters have lost all ability at analytical reasoning?

Esquire

A PAC will take about anyone's money. And it is an independent PAC, right Citizen's United fans? So Obama has nothing at all to do with it. Now let's see you wiggle out of that without admitting that the pro-Romney PAC isn't really coordinating with Romney in violation of law.

Happy Valley Heretic, you have answered your question with your question.

This whole discussion is instructive from another perspective because once again it highlights the rights absolute refusal to admit reality (and if one thing will defeat Romney in November..it's that). If you compare the the lefts (Bill Maher) and the rights (Rush Limbaugh) approach to popular political discourse it tells you all you need to know about attitudes. Rush Limbaugh a single vile king maker, who rants on and on for hours each day all by himself devoid of any coutner forces or criticism..vs..Bill Maher who hosts a weekly hour show with a panel of three who 99% of the time have at least one conservative on it and very often is made up of two conservatives. Rush Limbaugh who requires an apology if offended vs. Maher who is often booed by his own liberal audience.

What this highlights is that Maher is right about one thing..repbulicans live in a bubble.

Bill Maher a comic? Not hardly. He hasn't been funny for about 25 years and his shows are quite dumb. Now George Carlin was a commedian.

Agreed.
Great comment - to add,

Years ago, admittedly I used to watch "Hannity & Combs" on FoxNews.

Hannity and Beck changed and have since also followed the Limbaugh formula of one-sided 4 hour monologs of hearing themselves speak, topics they wish to control, sound snippets cut and pasted j-u-s-t right and screening callers to gleen only what THEY want to hear – be it fawning words of praise and admiration or the looniest lefties they can find [my guess, Conservative “plants” they accuse everyone else using – part of the it takes one to know one mindset.]

I use to find it interesting to liste the radio station who proclaim family values all the time. The more I listened to Rush limbaugh the harder it got to belieeve this station worried about family values. People say things they shouldn't, but I haven't heard anyone who gets nastier than Rush. It is vile the way he treats human beings. I don't understand how good people don't get offended. yet he seems to get a lot of support. Does it say something about how we treat eaach other when people thrive off this garbage. It isn't just one comment. He degrades so many people and if we don't like swear words, how can we sit there and listen to him! It wouldn't matter what side Rush was on, I wouldn't support what he does.

So if Rush write jokes, goes on HBO once a week and slams liberal women that will make it okay?

There's always a loop-hole in everything. Just gotta find it.
