Sure. There are times for compromise, and times to hold fast to principle. Budgeting, taxation, spending priorities are the sorts of issues for which compromise is called for. Civil Rights is one where we need to hold fast to principle. The Gordon Norquist anti-tax pledge? That's just bad governance.

So basically, your solution is to say "NO" to everything (except for further tax cuts for the rich) and unsustainable military spending) and more handouts to banks and oil companies while driving our country off a cliff by defaulting and destroying our credit?

No thanks.

Lets compromise. The alternative (which this letter writer is suggesting), is far far FARRRR worse.

I don't think you can truly say that compromise is always a virtue. It might just be the failure to take a stand or "shaking hands with the devil". Someone wants to kill my children while I want to defend them. What would be a compromise to that? Wouldn't you want to defend the innocent or die trying?

Much of what goes on in Congress are issues of life and death. Stand for something. A succession of compromises can be but slow defeat.

"Someone wants to kill my children while I want to defend them. What would be a compromise to that? Wouldn't you want to defend the innocent or die trying?"

Ummmmm... First of all, this is a completely vague scenario. In some forms, compromise would work. Ultimately, your scenario lacks the details to warrant any thoughtful consideration.

"Much of what goes on in Congress are issues of life and death."

You're right, which is why we shouldn't side with death panel insurance companies who do not want to invest into America's sick or aged.

We shouldn't compromise anymore! Just rid ourselves of the red tape and do what every other industrial country has, a SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM.

Unfortuntely the fact that the Democrats have caved into the Republicans and the far right, even when they had a slight numerical superiority in Congress, and allowed the far right prograns to be approved proves your point.

This letter is outrageous. Of course you compromise. We live in America, say what you want about it, but its one place where different people from all over the world have come and live together. Lets look at places they are not compromising in: North Korea, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Parts of Africa. Gee those places seem like a lot of fun to live in! Lets emulate them!

If our politicians do not compromise, we will continue on exactly the same path that we are currently on.

Everyone screams that the current congress is doing nothing, but applaud their side for not giving an inch.

Now, from where I sit,

The GOP has taken a hard stance against any tax increases. In fact, they signed a pledge.
They want to cut programs that by all accounts will hurt the poor. They also want to cut taxes even further, which will benefit the rich.

Can anyone really dispute that?

The Dems on the other hand want to cut little except the military.
However, they seen to understand that cuts must be made and will do so begrudgingly so long as the top earners also share in the pain.

Now, you tell me. Who seems more willing to compromise?

No compromise Governments are TOTALITARIAN Governments.

If that be the case,
then I will tend to agree and not Compromise our Freedom and Democracy to your No Compromising Totalitarian State.

It was unfortunate that as the leader of our country Obama said" "We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."

Obama is the classic example of a guy with no tolerance for those who disagree with him, and who has demonstrated no desire to compromise.

You are quoting that out of context.
When he said that, he was referring to the former GOP administration of the last 8 years, who had just driven the entire Country a cliff.
They are no longer driving, and can now either help us [America] get back on track, or get in the back and quietly go along the ride.

If a Republican had said that the Democrats would have accused him/her of making a racist comment. Either which way it doesn't speak to tolerance or compromise.
