Defense has always been lacking with the Jazz as far back as I can remember. Their defensive stats now tell a much better story. Now if they can improve thier outside shooting, they will be serious future contenders.
Lets not kid ourselves here. Al Jefferson has been out of the lineup for 2 of the last 4 games and it is no coincidence the defense improved with Favors and Kanter getting the extra minutes.
The last game against Phoenix, Gortat beat AJ back down the court multiple times and got easy layups. AJ conserves his energy for offense.
AJ is a lousy defender and that is never going to change. I hope he doesn't ruin it because often if one guy does not help then the others see that and then they stop helping.
If the go-to star is allowed to not play defense and then still allowed to play it makes his team mates believe that is acceptable behavior to the coach. AJ needs to get benched if he is loafing on defense if Corbin wants to be taken seriously.
It is no coincidence that AJ has always been on losing teams.
