Thank you LDS church for the vision and commitment to grow SLC's downtown for all. Well done.

You mean the newspaper owned by the same entity as the City Creek Center thinks it is great? Shocking!

BTW, is a very beautiful center - I walked through during my lunch half-hour today. Well done!

I notice at the Gateway, every store is quite high priced and upscale. Is City Creek going to be the same way? Is there going to be provision for farmers a farmers market for example?

There is not one city in the country that would not welcome downtown development like this. SLC is very fortunate.

I walked City Creek Center last evening and was impressed. It offered the "big city" feel that you get in a vibrant downtowns around the country.

I would add to the editor's explanation of a downtown that struggled with construction as an impediment to growth and vibrancy- the Internet. Many people have taken to buying things online, even things they can get close to their homes in suburban areas.

But, one thing most people crave is what is known as a "third place," that place that comes after home and work that you want to be. A place where you can be around other people. A number of retailers have understood this and tried to build their stores as "third places." Think Starbucks (successful). Or bookstores (not as successful).

City Creek Center is a living/shopping center- filled with residents, stores and restaurants. That is how it pays the bills. But, in my walk last night, I could see how it has been designed as a "third place." A place where people will want to go, to relax, to meet, to have fun. That is how it will survive- as a "third place."
