It would be nice if this sent a message to the mining industry, but if you review the history of this industry, you have to conclude that this slap on the wrist is merely a cost of doing business.
Slap. On. Wrist.
Oh, so effective.
Sends a message? Mining and worker safety are not new notions. Since when does risking a worker's life become a new concept? Large fines will simply be factored into the cost of doing business and the consumer is the ultimate payer. Criminal charges may be the message that is required.
And if we elect Republicans to office, they are promising to eliminate such frivolous agencies as OSHA, EPA, MSHA, and those other evil government outfits that stifle free enterprise.
Yeah. Just what we need, isn't it?
