"personal income appears to be down and personal consumption is flat. " A complete fixation on pro growth policies will never fix this core problem. Demand is at the heart of the recession and until demand is restored this will continue to be a bumpy recovery. Unfortunately the demand problem is a structural issue. Stimulus spending can provide temporary support for demand but it doesn't fix it. The demand problem is a multi headed monster. It involves education, social equality, tax policies, and a firm realization that the world has changed and we need to change with it.

It's very ironic that the writer bemoans women doing better than men and then fixes on pro growth policies. why are women getting hired at a rate faster than men..they are cheaper.

I heard someone ask the other day why weren't jobs outsourced in the 50's and 60's..because no one could do what we did. That's where we need to get back to. Then growth and demand will be back.

DonÂt the DN photographers pay any attention to the background in their photos? Do you really think this woman wanted to be photographed like that?

I wouldn't mind high fuel prices for a few months if it meant Obama being defeated.

If we would actually report real unemployment we would see the rate around 9.8% nationally. Those who have dropped off the unemployment roles because their 99 weeks are up are not counted in the governments calculation of unemployment which is insane. There are more and more sites now reporting real unemployment but of course the Obama administration sticks to the phony numbers.

Obama's rising gas prices are going to kill any sort of mild recovery. Wait until gas hits $5 a gallon this summer. YIKES!! Truckers are going to get squashed with these gas price increases and the entire economy will feel this ripple - more like a tsunami!!The sad thing here is that a good portion of this could have and should have been averted had Obama not killed all oil drilling and new pipelines over the past 3 years. The far lefty environmentalists won the day however it will be Obama who is the "biggest loser" come election time.
