Each day more than 1000 people in the US die (400,000/year) from smoking related
illnesses. If 1000 per day died from any other well defined cause the country
would be rightfully outraged. The tobacco lobby has successfully blunted this
public health catastrophe under the guise of personal liberty or verifiable
lies. The next time we ban a pesticide or artificial sweetener because of their
carcinogenic effects, let's put tobacco at the top of the list.
