Mr. Florez has put his finger on a key problem with our educational system. The emphasis on a college education in this economy applies to some students but hardly all, or even a majority of them. In fact, I've tried to instill in my own children that they learn a valuable trade first before pursuing a college education. That's what I would suggest to our lawmakers, that every student become proficient in some skill or trade before moving on to a college curriculum.

It's also important to realize that college education is valuable for more than just job training. Higher education is also great preparation for parenthood, citizenship, artistic appreciation, sensitivity, creativity, and leadership.
