I'm still waiting for some report to give me real hope that he will be 100% for Thursday against the Zags. If we lose Hartsock, we lose more than our most dependable, consistent player. We would lose the heart and soul of this team.
He is the clear leader of our 2012 team. He sets the pace and leads the way.
With a healthy Hartsock, we have a real chance of beating the Zags on Thursday and winning the WCC tournament. Go Cougs!
When I saw that play, I held my breath...for a long time. Noah is extremely resilient. Here's hoping that he's good to go for the Gonzaga game.
If anyone hears anything about Hartsock, please let everyone know what's up.
Let's hope Noah can play and that his leg will allow him to play at close to full speed. Go cougs.
@Captain I - I agree with that. If he ready to play we might call him the real Blue Gumby Hartstud!
I hope the coaching staff learns from this next year. They can't continue going into the season a man down from the start, with an injury. The older Collinsworth injury has been chronic and has hurt the team with depth, with Rogers and the other injury's this year we are only one more key injury away from being an average WCC team. This summer the coachâs need to seriously consider what they do with that position going into the fall. It seems each year we lack the depth we need to make a deep NCAA run, consider last year losing Davies at the last minute, with Collinsworth on the bench already. This can't happen for a third year in a row. We need the extra position with a center or power forward for depth! I assume the coaching staff is worried of how this would affect the younger brother when he comes home from his mission not sure.
As important or nice as it would be to win Thursday in Spokane, winning next week (on a neutral court in the WCC tournament) against either Gonzaga or St. Mary's is more important, and easier to achieve. BYU should do everything possible to have Hartsock and Carlino in top shape next week. Returning to play too early and having nagging injuries next week at WCC would be worse than just taking care of injuries this week.
Does he play soccer in the off season? Just ask'n
Hopefully he will be ok and BYU will be at full strength against the Zags. Winnable game if we play the way we are capable.
utahcountyute,
Thanks for the cheeky comment. Looking at the replay and seeing his leg get buckled underneath and then slammed to the ground with all that weight on top of it, I really don't know how his knee wasn't shredded to pieces. Hartscock, the team and all the fans are very fortunate it wasn't nearly as bad as it appeared to be.
Hartsock's near devastating injury was heart stopping as I viewed in on TV. Clearly it is a miracle if there is not lasting chronic aftereffects. I have observed the games this year and have come to the conclusion that WCC officiating is completely off the radar screen for its ineptness. If they don't clean up the contact in games by calling fouls some more people are going to be seriously hurt. I have officiated. That player who fouled Hartsock should have been ejected from the game. It was a dirty play, and is not part of the game of basketball. It was vicious and intentional in my opinion.
My other concern other than Rogers and Collingsworth not being available in a bench shortened situation of front court players, is the health of Carlino's knee. His play in the game was severely hampered with the on and off knee brace. I am worried about his availability. That is what I mean about the officiating. He has been banged up in games with very few fouls being called. Zystra is the same thing. He has been beat up as well and is suffering from no calls.
Go Cougars.
utahcountyute:
Did you really just say that?
I know that 5 losing seasons in 7 years, holding the ball for 30 seconds on offense being the only way to not lose a game by 20 pts. and being a doormat for the PAC is undoubtedly wearing on you, but maybe you could find another way to get rid of your pent up aggression other than "injury smack."
Stay classy lil band of transfers!
Was a foul called on the play? My memory tells me it was not, either way, this kind of play supports my previous, unaccepted, remark about WCC officiating. With injuries to two of Saint Mary's starters hampering their team, will not the WCC look at how the officials are "letting them play" to a harmful extent...this is not football or rugby. I'd like to see the end of the 3-point shot and start calling the travelling and the bruising fouls that are now let go, ala the NBA, which is not really basketball.
@agb, I think utcountyute was mocking soccer more than Hartsock. Now we all know ucu is equally uneducated in two sports. Times are tough on the hill until spring practice starts.
Yes, a foul was called and I believe Nate Austin took the free throws.
Leave it up to a Ute to make an irrelevant comment.
Thanks for explaining Pavlov
Glad the guy is OK.
This is Dick Harmon trying to make news where there isn't any to be had though.
utahcountyute,
The leader of the BYU team goes down in what looked to be a horrific injury and is questionable for Thursday night's game against Gonzaga, and that's not news? Why so easily bothered by anything having to do with BYU?
