One of the things that makes Burks such an asset to the team offensively is his ability to get to the free throw line. Three things can happen when someone goes to the basket: a hoop, free throws or no points and too many times Jazz players come away with nothing. Scouts were wondering if the slim Burks was strong enough to finish at the rim in the NBA. At least we know that he is quick/strong enough to finish often...he just needs to improve that as Corbin figures out a way to play him next to Hayward. When that starts happening regularly I'm going to wish I had satellite TV instead of cable. Go Alec.

That will be the end of C J's minutes.

When the Jazz picked Burks, my thought was "WHY??? We need an outside shooter and this kid can't shoot!" I've been very impressed with him so far. He must have used the extended off-season well. Keep working hard and you'll get your chance Burks. Good find, Jazz Management.

I don't see any problem with giving Burks C "Jack it up" Miles's minutes. In fact he just as well have Howards too. Bell, Hayward and Burks are the only wings that are playing up to NBA level right now. Come on Ty,let's see more of Alec Burks, Derrick Favors and the rebound machine Enes Kanter!

Hey desnews, how about some hard hitting journalism on why starters
like bell and turnover harris get time and produce next to nothing?

The "young rookies should be grateful for time" schtick was played out 10 years ago.

Its about time Burks started getting major minutes.

I'm so happy this story was written. My biggest complaint about Coach Corbin is the lack of PT Burks is seeing. Honestly, in 3 years we'll be begging him to stay. Mark my words

I really doubt we will ever be begging Burks to stay. However, I do like him alot over Miles. Miles can't shoot, drive, or play D.

Burks better than CJ...Yeah right!! CJ runs circles around Burks. If Burks gets minutes, it will be from Bell not CJ.

I love this kid! Along with Watson he displays the type of play the Jazz need. As for whose minutes he's going to take away ... I'm betting it's going to be CJ.

If Burks improves a bit more, and starts to finish his shots near the basket, Miles is going to become trade bait.

First,

Nearly EVERYONE on the Jazz should be seeing "starter minutes" in a shortened season where you are playing back-to-back-to-backs. It is insane to try and give the same guys big minutes three games in a row.

Have one set of "starters" for the first game, another for the second game, and whoever plays best gets the minutes for the third game.

Second,

"it's been a little tricky for Corbin to find chunks of time for him because of starter Raja Bell 's improved play. C.J. Miles and Hayward have also gotten some two-spot time ahead of Burks."

We aren't going for a title, here, Corbin. Raja's minutes should be diminished no matter what. He's old and will be long gone before the Jazz are contenders. C.J. has peaked, and the Jazz need to find out what the youngsters can do.
