obama just doesn't get it or he isn't bright enough to understand. I think it is the latter. way over his head. One term with BO is one too many.
Here's hoping the Republicans don't go along with spending cuts that are "promised" 10 yrs. away!
We need to cut much more and much deeper! Especially if they are only "potential" cuts.
agreed 1conservative. obama doesn't understand the word "cut" unless it refers to American rights. Budgetary cuts is a foreign word to him. he has to go. Four more years is unthinkable.
There should be a disclaimer on all Associated Press articles.
Most "average voters" are too busy with American Idol to educate themselves about the insane debt our country has hanging over our children's and grandchildren's heads.
Of course the liberal, newspaper and airwaves (which are totally controlled by extreme leftist Media Matters) will continue to fabricate positive stories about the non-recovery, while the government borrows more and more money so it can grow.

A budget from Obama?
Somebody must have hacked DN's website and put this article up as a joke.
Health care is greatly affected by government spending in the form of medicare and medicaid. Construction is greatly affected by government in the form of public works projects (roads, school construction). The government is becoming the major player in the US economy. Slowly we are becoming the USSR, at least regarding government control.
Note that in this article the government will control how much physicians are reimbursed for medicaid and medicare services. And the government wants all Americans on a single-pay option? Obama would like all Americans getting health insurance through the government, which would then control salaries. See how this is becoming like the USSR? China? Cuba? How have those worked out?
USSR failed. China has become more capitalistic (though further reforms are needed). Cuba is still a 3rd world country with very little progress, but they are opening up more...though not much more.
I say get government out of business, except for protecting rights and freedoms. Federal government has no business in health care, schools, roads, and much more. Let the states do what the constitution says they should do.

**'The Rise Of Cloture: How GOP Filibuster Threats Have Changed The Senate' - Ben Frumin and Jason Reif - Talking Points Memo - 01/27/10
When Democrats reclaimed the Senate majority in the 2006 midterm elections, cloture filings shot up from 68 in 2005-2006 (From Dems) to a record 139 in 2007-2008.' (From Republicans)
I do not understand the logic to 'blame Obama' for no budget...
when we have 139 filibusters, almost DOUBLE, before he even took office.
There is one word to summerize why we do not have a working budget.
'Obstruction.'
Republicans hope they can make our country SO bad...
they will look appealing, in comparison.
And work to make sure this country...
fails.
So We The Frugal People are resolved to borrow 4 trillion dollars less then we would have if we were not so frugal? I think we now qualify as insane.
As if the Republicans know anything about budget reduction. Romney's plan decreases revenues and increases defense spending and would need to cut a quarter trillion a year in spending just to make up for those two parts of his plan and maintain Obama deficit levels. Romney's about as fiscally responsible as Gingrich is promiscuously responsible.
Our President promised to cut the deficit in half within his first four years. This has not been the case, even though government revenues are projected to be much higher than they were when he took office ($2.9 trillion projected).
In fact, if President Obama had simply submitted the same amount of spending that President Bush did in his HIGHEST spending year ($2.9 trillion), this would be a balanced budget.
Instead, the President proposed the highest level of spending of any President in history - $900 billion more for one year than was ever spent by President Bush in a year.
A refusal to cut spending (the largest driver of our deficit) has resulted in the inability of the President to keep yet another one of his promises.
Here's hoping that, yet again, Republicans and Democrats reject President Obama's budget in a bipartisan manner.
Here's the English translation:
President Obama to spend more on his friends now, blame goes to Bush
Next president spends much less, credit goes to Obama
$4 T 'saved' by cuts to defense over a decade while the federal deficit will continue to balloon with all the increases elsewhere in the budget means absolutely nothing good! There is no redeeming quality of his budget proposal. All that will happen is Congress- include many Dems- won't pass it (because it's ridiculous and bad economic policy) and then Obama will say the economy isn't his fault, and Congress is the one who has the problems. Truth is, they've all got to go. We absolutely need to look for representatives with sufficient character on both sides of the aisle to turn our country around.

Perhaps because Democrats are more willing to compromise to serve the needs of our country.
If this budget does not pass that is, what?
Our 3rd threat of 'goverment shutdown' since Obama took office?

Pass a budget.
But don't pass ANYTHING, and then claim it was, someone else.
If that is the case, what has the Republican party DONE to help this country...
in the last x3 years?
Hi Pagan,
You ask about what Republicans have done to help the nation in the past 3 years. Allow me to provide you with a single example from labor economics:
In 2010, the unemployment rate remained stagnant above 9.5% and even ticked up to 9.8% in Dec 2010. Obama's "shovel ready" stimulus had already gone into effect and unemployment just kind of sat there (which is why he used the criteria of "creating OR SAVING jobs").
Then, in Jan/Feb 2011, the unemployment rate dropped significantly (.8% in just two months).
The question, then, is, "Why did the unemployment rate suddenly drop so sharply?" Labor economists recognize that large changes like that are caused by system shocks and do not happen out of the blue.
So, which shocks occurred in or around Jan 2011 to spur such changes? There are only 2 large events that labor economists point to: 1) The Bush Tax Cuts were extended in Dec 2010 and 2) Republicans took control of the House.
Isn't it interesting that businesses would rapidly start to hire again simply because President Obama would have a more difficult time passing his agenda?
Food for thought.

This isn't a cause and effect.
If that was the case, then why are you not blaming the end of the Iraq war on Obama?
Party.
let's LOOK at the actions of the Republican party after 2010.
**'House GOP blocks bill to extend jobless benefits By Andrew Taylor AP 11/18/10
The reason I bring up your lack of cause and effect is, the Bush tax cuts were CREATED in 2001.
Along with the first bail out.
To claim they STARTED working...x7 years later?
When even YOU admit, unemployment rose to 9.8%?
Is, a contradiction.
At least Obama:

Good day.
The worst part in all of this? This budget has to be a win for one side or the other. There is no such thing as compromise or working together. Out of anything that has happened in this country, the increasing polarizing of the parties is driving it into the ground. Democrats want to reduce the deficit by eliminating taxes on the wealthy and helping the poor. Republicans want to reduce the debt by cutting spending on the poor and reducing taxes on the wealthy.
In reality, neither method will satisfy either side and nothing of substance will get done. However, President Obama will be given blame for that nothing being done. While he can submit budgets and plans, at the end of the day he can only sign what makes it to his desk from the house and senate.
It is so easy to speak right before an election. With all the freebies Obama is promising, how do we make up such a deficit? It sounds like buying votes to me.
We as a country need to take a stand to elect officials that are not simply looking out for their personal interests. Washington corrupts the good people and spits them out.
Obama is part of the problem but is not the only problem. The division among party lines is widening. Why can't we simply have a single party and the most votes in the country wins?
@Hawkeye79
"Isn't it interesting that businesses would rapidly start to hire again simply because President Obama would have a more difficult time passing his agenda?"
That's not accurate. The number of jobs created in 2011 was not much more than were created in 2010. So why did the unemployment rate fall faster in 2011 than 2010? Think about it. Most job layoffs were around Jan 2009 (that was the worst month for the recession) and unemployment insurance lasted 99 weeks. That means everyone was falling off of unemployment centered on December 2010 with most reaching 99 weeks between Sept 2010 and May 2011. That's why unemployment dropped faster in 2011. It wasn't that so many more jobs were created compared to the previous year, it's that there were also people falling off of unemployment and giving up.
Besides, don't you conservatives on a monthly basis attack Obama for having a supposedly low number of jobs created? Now you want to claim job growth the past year was good because of republicans? Such hypocrites.
@IndeMak
"The division among party lines is widening. Why can't we simply have a single party and the most votes in the country wins?"
In my opinion, the party lines exist as a way for people to vote for candidates while remaining in ignorance. They find a label that they like, based on any number of factors such as celebrities, family, friends, media, etc. Once they find a label they like, it comes down to looking for the right letter next to a candidate and voting for him. After an election, all blame for wrongs goes to the guy with the wrong letter next to his name.
Despite unbelievable amounts of information being available, people aren't interested in being knowledgeable of politics. Granted, it is awfully difficult to find the "facts" about any issue or person because of the vast amounts of distorted media.
Bottom line, parties let people vote without knowing who they're voting for and let them know who to blame when things aren't perfect.
