Basketball - They're either going to need to beat Gonzaga at the Kennel or else in the semis of the WCC Tournament. (1-6) against the RPI top 50 will not be enough come selection Sunday.

Football - I didn't think the line was nearly as good as it should have been last season anyways. They moved the ball in large part because Nelson could scramble and keep plays alive.

I'm not so sure that retooling the O-Line will be such a challenge. Ryker Matthews is a stud and will do a nice job filling in for Matt Reynolds. As for replacing Terrance Brown at Center, I'm not so sure he did all that great of a job this year. His shotgun snaps were an area of concern and helped get us off to that great start in the Utah game. Also, running up the middle was non-existent this past year and I think Brown got manhandled a lot at the point of attack.

As for the secondary, do these guys even do a little research before writing? We lose Uale who was good for at least one late hit/targeting penalty a game (usually at critical junctures where we made a huge 3rd down stop) and still had problems taking bad angles to the WR after the catch and allowing them to make the turn for big gains. With Craig Bills coming back we have a returning starter who will more than adequately fill in for him.

Also, at corner we have enough depth and flexibility that guys (ie Joe Sampson) can be moved to safety to help get our best athletes on the field at all times. I don't think the secondary will be an issue at all. More likely it will be LB depth and DL depth.

I think Fuga, Manumaleuna and ??? (Dulan, Tialavea, Richardson, Marques Johnson, etc) will be a good starting group but I don't think we can afford any injuries there. Also, with the LB group, I'm hoping that Zac Stout makes it back from injury and starts to show his stuff. It's hard to replace a Jordan Pendleton and Jameson Frazier was a guy who didn't get a lot of attention but was really had a nose for the ball. We might not have the depth there we need.

Big Cougar, from an objective standpoint, if Corby Eason really was good enough to remain the starter throughout the entire season, I would be at least a little concerned about the depth in the defensive backfield. I would expect the O-Line to be decent as usual, and even though I was extremely underwhelmed with Matt Reynolds' play this year after hearing what a phenomenal player he was, replacing a veteran left tackle is typically a little more difficult than just throwing in a highly-touted high school player. I've heard Matthews is a stud, but there will still likely be a learning curve. I think you'll be fine at LB, but DL looks to be thin again. But good luck to them, the offseason is a chance for everyone to improve and get ready to surprise people in the fall.
