"The images pulled from Josh Powell's computer were seized at the beginning stages of the investigation into the disappearance of his wife, Susan Powell. Since then his father, Steven Powell, with whom he was living in Washington state, was arrested on child pornography and voyerism charges."
Wow. It only took WVC Police Academy graduates two years to make a move on this... Nice job, guys.
@ Rational: The images on Josh Powell's computer are not illegal images - having them does not constitute a crime.
What non-criminal information do you have in your life that you think the police should be able to act on?
Yes, the images are slimy and repulsive and the Judge thought the possession of them was grounds enough to warrant a psychosexual exam, but short of that there was nothing actionable about the images. And until the children had been removed from the home on valid grounds and the situation had progressed to the point that reunification was being considered, there was no reason to share them. Sharing them prematurely may have effected the case to the point that the images could not be considered at all.
I am not excusing what Josh Powell did or making excuses for any missteps that may have occurred, but this "evidence" was handled exactly as required under the law.
Personally, I don't want the police to have the authority to treat me like a criminal based on non-criminal items in my home. Do you?

Why do some people feel it necessary to add a "but" to their comments? Decent husbands and fathers don't get involved with pornography, legal or otherwise. It cheapens them and poisons their relationship with their spouse.
Sooner or later those who look for pleasure at the local landfill become desensitized to the smell .... and think it is normal.
