Bring it! Location matters and having SLC airport so close to ALL venues will be a plus. Hosting in Tahoe or Denver would spread venues widely apart and have some venues hours from an airport.

Let's go for it!

It'd be nice, but I think cities shouldn't have multiple olympics so close in time.

No.

Go for the summer games and become the first city to host both the winter and summer olympic games!

SLC will probably have to go up against Denver, Reno/Tahoe, and maybe Lake Placid or Bozeman.

I think Denver would be the favorite, but who knows, SLC, Reno, Denver would all be good choices.

Come on. There is nothing better right for the Utah government to be doing? The chances of Utah getting another Olympic bid are about a great as BYU getting into the PAC12. Come to think of it, BYU has a better chance of getting in the PAC12. What a waste of time, resources and money. That's what government does best.

Great idea
Denver burned their chances for at least 100 years
Bozeman wont happen any time soon (the games have simply gotten too big)
Reno is the biggest US competition

Looks like the Governor without a cause may have finally found one.

Re: I Bleed Blue

Actually, the likelihood for SLC to receive the Games is very high. The infrastructure is there, the volunteers are there, thus the IOC could make a lot of money (something that is becoming an increasing problem, especially with the Winter Games). Also, there are few places that can adequately hold Winter Games, thus SLC has another bonus. The only problem lies not in SLC, but the ongoing financial collaboration issues between the IOC and the USA. Until that is resolved, there won't be any Games here.

How we quickly forget. The SLC Olympic venues were built to host more than one Olympics. Great sacrifice has been given to keep the venues which is what hurts Calgary and Squaw Valley/Reno/Tahoe. The International Olympic Committee encouraged Utah to keep their venues as an uncertain economic future faced us 10 years ago right after 9/11 and due to the great success of SLC. In contrast to Vancouver's unorganized disaster.

The stars have lined up again, uncertain economy and North America's turn after Russia and South Korea. St. Moritz is a perfect choice but may have to wait until '26.

The obstacle is the politics of the US Olympic Committee. Short memories and a US spend mentality, may tilt the Olympic bid to a new venue which could lose the International bid.

Another reason SLC is prime...after Chicago's losing bid for the Summer Olympics there are no North America Summer Olympic bids.

London is this Summer and Summer bids are in for '20 from Istanbul, Rome, and Madrid. So, a Winter Olympics in Europe or Asia are not likely.

Argentina and Chile pulled their Winter hope bids after Brazil won the '16 Summer games too.

Love it, except Provo should make the bid. Keep the same venues but the opening and closing ceremonies would be in the largest stadium in Winter Olympic history.
..Denver is larger but Reno and St. Moritz are too small for a 21st Century Olympics.

And how cool would it be to have two Olympic torches in Utah!

This will work out well. Mitt Romney will just have finished his second term as President of the United States and will be able to run these games as well!

If I'm not mistaken, Denver never had interest in the Olympics in 2002, may not care for them in 2022-----many Olympic games lose money---who wants that??
The USA may never get the summer Olympics back again (international bias), going on 16 years without them-----with global warming who knows if there will be snow in 2022------I hope we get it without the scandal this time. Huntsman should be president from 2016 to 2024, but that may not help because Pres. Obama's city of Chicago was turned down for the summer games.

Love it . . . I wasn't here in 2002 but watched from afar & would definitely come back in 2022 or 2026 for a repeat games. Salt Lake City has a lot of flaws . . . but hosting an incredible Winter Olympiad isn't one of them & would give this city another chance to shine.

Proximity of good skiing venues in Colorado are hours from Denver with poor air service between the two. I'm sure NBC will weigh in on logistics like that. I'm sure Denver could host a fine Winter Olympics but it's just not feasible for it to happen for them. SLC brings large scale infrastructure to all venues with probably Soldier Hollow being the most out of the way.

This would be great. Especially for those of us who were a little too young to get the full benefit of hosting the games the first time around.

As for the Cauldron, we should do as USC does at the Los Angeles Coliseum with its Cauldron and lite the Cauldron at the beginning of the fourth quarter of every Utah home football game. That will ensure that the Cauldron is maintained in good working order. As for the 2022 Winter Games---bring them on!

Can we please quit wasting money on this?

Salt Lake had the Olympics once and there are plenty of other suitable cities around the world that have not. Our odds of getting it again, especially so close to the last time, are extremely slim.

Surely the tax dollars being spent on this "committee" could be better used elsewhere.
