I think I remember reading that in one state, a similar bill was amended to require that others receiving State payments -- including legislators -- also receive drug testing. I would have more confidence in our legislators if they subjected themselves to conditions they impose on others.
My employer requires random drug testing as a condition of employment.
Why should I have to pass the "whiz quiz" to earn money that is taken in taxes to be given to folks who don't even have to avoid using illegal drugs?
Frankly, given the choice between requiring welfare recipient drug testing or just ending TANFS welfare entirely if drug testing is not allowed, I say end it. Drug abuse is the root problem of many ills in our society and we shoudl do everything we can to discourage it, including testing every recipient of welfare of any sort.
Let the ACLU hand out welfare checks instead of confiscating hard working taxpayers' money to help anyone abusing drugs.
While the Florida law was active, it found that 2% of welfare recipients used illegal substances.
This has cost the state $200,000 for drug testing alone - plus the money they have to spend to defend the law.
Every law like this that has been passed has been found to violate the Constitution.
