Next to the last day of the 2002 Games I sat in front of a fireplace together with a friend mine the head MD of the Finnish National Olympic Commission, Dr. Seppo Rehunen. Just the two of us... relaxing. Ever since the time I had first met him In the 70's he had gone to numerous Olympis, World Champioship events around the world. He had witnessed them all.
There in front of the warmth of the fire at Homestead Inn in Soldier Hollow Seppo gave the Games and Utah the greatest compliment possible:
"We have been to many places before where people fake friendships, but here it is genuine."
Coming from him, a Finn (Finns do not "small talk" compliment), he was simply commenting what he felt.
"The program will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $20; proceeds will be used to help pay for the celebration activities."
Where is the funding coming from for these events? The quote above seems to indicate that tickets sales will not be enough ...
