Absolutely the race should continue; he hasn't even cleared 50% in any states yet and he'd have a good chance of losing florida if santorum had dropped out. Plus given how volatile this race has been a lot can change in the next month. Sure, Romney will most likely be the nominee but it's hardly a foregone conclusion and anyone other than Ron Paul could conceivably win (Santorum would need Gingrich to implode which is hardly unrealistic, Gingrich needs Santorum to drop out and have an angry base get out to vote).

Four years ago, Mitt won five of the six February primaries with wide or comfortable margins. He lost AZ to McCain, but McCain is endorsing Mitt this go round, so I suspect AZ will be a Mitt win. Most of these six primaries will have Mitt getting over 50%.

From 2008: all wins for Mitt except AZ
NV 51.1%
ME 51.9
CO 60.1
MN 41.4
MI 38.9
AZ 34.2 (McCain 47.2)

I anticipate even better percentages this go round.

Go Mitt!

I would have to agree.

Romney also made proclamations about winning in Iowa.

That victory, went to Rick Santorum.

Romney did win, New Hampshire.

And then with the Mitt Romney claim of 'inevitability' in his Presidental run...he factually lost...

South Carolina, to Newt Gingrich.

So to claim to end the race, due to the 'expected' win in Florida?

It is foolish.

As, the ASSUMPTION of victory...

is not, a victory.

The race should absolutely continue. Romney hasn't been fully vetted yet. Gingrich, et al., could amass enough delegates to cause a brokered convention. There's a lot more race to be run.

One of the comments near the end of this article said something about Romney being "Mr. Nice Guy", and that being that way won't win the election. Unfortunately, that is true. Romney is a nice guy, and he has tried to conduct his part of this nomination competition that way, but he has had to join the negative fight in order to stay in the running. It's too bad the candidates can't just promote their own qualifications for the nomination... experience, ideas, proposals, etc... without having to cut down some facet of the opponents' characters or activities. I know that Romney would prefer it that way, but he has been placed in the position of defending everything he is or has done. I believe he has shown that he is equal to the task of being the President, and with the support of a good VP and good Cabinet members with complementary skills and abilities, he would be able to accomplish a lot.

You are entitled to any view you would like.

But Mitt Romney's very FIRST TV add...

attacked someone.

President, Obama.

So, to claim that Mitt Romeny did not 'want' a negative campaign...

is redundant, when his FIRST add...

was a negative ad campaign.

Romney poised to regain frontrunner status, not just because a songwriter from the group Survivor has sued Newt Gingrich's campaign for using "Eye of the Tiger" at campaign events, but Romney is the best to go up against Obama in those 3 debates. Oh I'm sure Newt should have known better here to, he flounders in Florida polls ahead of the state's primary, Newt Gingrich got some more bad news after he was sued over his choice of music for campaign stops. Which was immortalised in the film Rocky III. The suit was brought by Rude Music, Inc., a company owned by Survivor songwriter and guitarist Frankie Sullivan. The lawsuit also calls for monetary damages. Newt Violates Copyright Rules of Law, and got busted again. The suit says Gingrich violated copyright by using the song in appearances dating back at least to 2009, including in appearances at campaign events and at the Conservative Political Action Conference. CPAC is hosted by the American Conservative Union, which is also named in the lawsuit. Newt just can't be trusted.

The elephant - symbol of the Republican Party since 1874 - remembers that GOP stands for "Grand Old Party," but increasingly, the elephant is standing alone.

At least that's the thinking at The Wall Street Journal, which has decided to stop using the acronym to refer to the 148-year-old political party.

In an internal memo issued to staffers last week, Journal higher-ups said the term GOP will be dropped because not all readers know what the letters mean, and some may not realize that they are a reference to the Republican Party.

That doesn't mean that the time-honored letters will disappear forever from the pages of the prestigious financial newspaper.

Reporters and editors will still be allowed to use the term in a quotation, if someone else says GOP. But an explanation of the acronym will be provided for any readers who might be stumped.

Confusing the readers isn't the only issue underlying the newspaper's decision. The text of the memo announcing the new policy hints that some readers might feel the name "Grand Old Party" is less objective than it might be.

3 cheers for Mitt Romney.

The passive/aggression on these posts is obvious. The people really wishing for a protracted primary are those hopeing Republicans will be wounded, allowing Obama to squeek through.

Although it doesnt really matter if the primary continues. Gingrich has imploded once again and the more "vetting" Romney receives, the more innoculated he becomes against the slime machine, and the worse Obama looks.

Yes I want the others to quit, so Romney can prepare for the battle with obama, and that includes raising money.

Romney's farther along in gaining his party's nod than Obama was at this point 4 years ago. Here's to President Obama's only term.

"Romney also made proclamations about winning in Iowa." So did the press. It wasn't until a "recount" that didn't include all the ballots that Santorum was declared the winner. That is very close to the vest for the Bush-Gore race in Florida, isn't it? Why didn't Gore want military absentee votes counted? And why didn't California count their one million absentee ballots? Would anyone want to "rig" an election? Really....

"But Mitt Romney's very FIRST TV add...

And this surprises you? Anyone, including me, running for President would have to immediately point out the disaster that Obama has been for this country. The liberals in Europe (who have money troubles deeper than ours) seem to think he is ok, but who wants to turn the United States in Europe, except the demos and their head man?

Maybe sometime you can actually include some text other than just headlines to make your point. Headlines, as you may not realize, are designed to capture readers and many times are at odds with the content and context of the actual article. Sorry, it's true.

Mitt wins Florida.

Counter Intelligence - absolutely the wrong reading why people want the process to go on. Only 4 states of 50 have had their voices heard. By no means should 4 or even 10 states decide the other 46 or 40 states choice for president. But then again, in a state like Utah that doesn't trust its public to vote correctly in the primaries, it is understandable why it would be acceptable to exclude 80 to 90 percent of the country from participating in the process.

The best response would be to officially make the nominating process only 2 months long, so that every voters voice is counted. We should never accept a system that pre-empts peoples rights to participate in the voting process.

And you don't think what has been going on between Newt and Romney the "slime machine"? It is only slime when a democrat does something. This level of dishonesty demonstrated is exactly why I no long associate with the Republican party. Dishonesty is dishonesty. Slim is slim. There is no win at all cost. There is no means justify the ends. It is just plain wrong no matter which party.

So, it is 'bad' to use 'gutter politics' on Republican canidates....

but it is 'acceptable' to do to Democrats?

Rhetorical question.

It is OBVIOUS, that is the case.

I enjoy it when people get upset at the headlines I present. And then present nothing, theselves.

@ Pagan

"Of the two of us...

I, presented, any facts."

And they were................? (I asked 3 questions---that, admitidly is a 'fact.')

What you presented were headlines which are many times opposite of the facts in the story.

For example, you missed the headline about Obama's jobs programs "not being Shovel-Ready" which was his cute little phrase about how he was going to "limit unemployment to not more than 8%" (another missed 'headl;ine') or another real kicker----we should not be in Iraq but rather should be in Afghanistan, "going after Bin Laden." Well, Pagan, we got Bin Laden so why are we still in Afghanistan if we accomplished the purpose for being there? What about "closing Gitmo" and why has Obama apologized to everyone that will listen about the "reprehensible conduct of the United States?" Why is it so necessary that the American people get immediate relief from his economic policies ("America can't wait") if the spending policies of his administration are so sound? There are lots of headlines you've missed posting; missing many of your so-called 'facts.'

But I'm not upset---I'm entertained by your posts. Keep them coming, please.

@ Pagan: There is nothing wrong with using quotes in your posts, but they should be used to support your points that you are trying to make. In your case, you simply post headlines and leave the reader wondering what your point is.

"Counter Intelligence - absolutely the wrong reading why people want the process to go on."

The first posts on this thread (calling for a long primary) are from posters that have long ago illustrated that they have no interest in anything Republican: So it is disingenuous to claim that they want some noble vetting process; instead of merely a long bloodbath for the opposing party.

YES both parties engage in slime: but the left has perfected it (remember blaiming Palin for murder?) That level of passive/aggression is exactly why I no longer trust the Democratic party. (That does not mean that there is an inverse relationship with Republicans)

I agree with you that a better nominating process is in order. To that end: I wouldnt mind a long, more inclusive, primary in this election cycle for for Democrats too. I am sure they could do better.

So after 4 state primaries, the rest of us should just kneel before King Romney and accept the conventional wisdom that he's the nominee. If I remember correctly there are 50 states in this country and all of us can cast our ballots as we see fit. I think we need to remember that it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings". GO NEWT
