Any legislator who votes in favor of this, and who has received a campaign donation from the sign company (and that's pretty much all of them) deserves to be thrown out of office this November - or better yet, at the caucuses. These guys have all taken so much money from so many special interests it's sickening.

Sign ordinances are absolutely and unequivocally a local issue. Ironic that the same legislators who bemoan federal interference in state matters feel no compunction at all about the state interfering in local matters, especially if it keeps the corporate donations flowing.

Get the federal government out of our business you city governments must do what we tell you. our state government knows no shame.

Well, lobbying and "donations" to legislators obviously work.

I think the state legislators have every right to be involved in these road signs including their placement and design as required by federal funding laws the govern UDOT and federal road construction.

I believe that the need for road sings went out with the establishment of the high speed freeway system that has laws about billboard use. Since most of the road hazards in SLC are placed intentionally to block drivers vision along federal high ways the state does have some say.

I hope they ban all billboards, especially the flashing electronic TV screens that impair divers concentration and driving skills, and block road signs. Some times we have to sacrifice some things for safety reasons, even if some one loses a job and a few bucks.

Billboards are an industry that has outlived its days along with buckboards and the blacksmiths. Its time to put road safety and driver safety and the safety or our children ahead of a business.

@ My2Cents: Unfortunately, by getting involved the State Legislators are doing exactly the opposite of what you seem to support in your comment.

Salt Lake City actually agrees with you and wants to limit most billboards and totally eliminate the flashing electronic TV screen ones -

the State Legislature doesn't want them to be able to do this and is working to pass legislation giving more power to the sign companies.
