As one of the primary instigators of the new law last year that was intended to make it easier for the public to communicate with local school communty council members, I am pleased with the findings of the legislative audit that reveals how serious the problem of school community council operations are in this State. These councils can be backbone of parent involvement, local control, and educational improvement in our State - this is a very Republican concept and hopefully the State Legislatue will take vigorous action on this vital need for parental involvement in our public schools if the quality education of our youth is to be maintained and advanced.

I too have found this very flawed and discriminating to taxpayers and parents of the education system. The schools ask for parents, grandparents, and family to get involved in the schools only as aids and long as they don't interfere with the socialist education process that the Utah education has become.

I have asked my self about getting involved with a local grade school or high schools and they say no. Not maybes or how to get involved with how my taxes are being used, just and emphatic no.

I think that these councils should allow any parent or property owner within the schools boundary should be allowed to be a part of this council. I find it very discriminating and dysfunctional and protective of education information and police that we have a right to know.

These councils and the education system has systematically locked taxpayers and parents out of their right to participate in the education process of their children and what our government is doing to their minds. Homeowners without children also have a right to this information and process of public schools they are funding and paying taxes for.
