the ACT along with all other standardized test are actually very poor indicators of readiness for college or life.
its time to stop looking for the magic test that will accurately determine if a child will be successful after high schools. Even most colleges and universities only use the ACT's as one of many things they take into consideration when admitting a student because they know it has very serious inherent limitations and biases.
This is an attempt to again blast teachers. We will make all students in Utah take it. Then we will compare that to the other states where only the college bound students take it. Then we will complain that Utah teachers are not doing enough because our average will be lower. Simple case of tail wagging the dog.
Terrible idea. It's true, whether some people want to hear it or not, that not everyone is cut out for college. Some don't want to go to college. The world needs good plumbers, electricians, machinists, and assembly line workers. Each of those is an honorable, well paid profession. This bill is also a recipe for a continuing decline in standardized test scores. Requiring those are are not cut out for college to take the exam will lower the average scores.
