Good luck, South Salt Lake. This will be a good thing for your community--will draw the kind of redevelopment and residents you want. Wishing you success.

Good luck taxpayers. You cast your vote and said no. You realize that federal, state, county and local taxes will continue to increase until you need to work two jobs just to put food on your table.

The voters said No. And yet the city government continues to press forward with the purchase. This is what is really wrong with America, our public officials do not listen to the taxpaying citizens. Vote them out in November.

SSL is trying mightily to transition from an industrial nowheresville to a nice little community with a mix of amenities to benefit all residents, not just those who live in developments like Waverly Station (about 3800 S. and W. Temple) where everything is provided for the residents. The city needs to expand its community facilities -- Columbus Center is very successful, but it is bursting at the seams. I hope the proponents of keeping the Granite HS campus prevail.

What kind of city government buys granite high in April 2011 and then holds a election in Nov.2011 to ask the citizens if they want to buy it, and the answer is no? Do you think something is backwards here? Do you think the city government does not respect the Voters?

Taxingthepoor - just for clarification, they didn't purchase the property in April 2011. They leased it with an option to purchase by a certain date. If they didn't get a short term lease under contract, they NEVER could have gone to voters as the district has to follow laws and timelines regarding the disposal of surplus property. The city followed the law in order to give voters an option to purchase. You can criticize their vision, but they were not backwards as those are the hoops they had to jump through.

Just for more information. If you read through the SSL city minutes from the city meetings they state that they leased granite for 16 months. They did not tell the public that they paid a $100,000. non-refundable earnest money.

Puckey77 What do you suggest the city do now buy granite and ignore the election or walk away?

Puckey 77 Just a little more clarification. After going to all of the city meetings for the past year about granite high and meeting with all of the city leaders, including the mayor and city attorney, not one time did they say there was a law requiring them to lease-purchase granite before a bond election could be held. They told me they leased-purchased it because they thought it was at a good price and they wanted to show it off to the people of the city.
