I hope the voters see this session for what it will actually be: A litmus test to see which politicians support American citizen workers and taxpayers, and which are willing to sell out to the cheap-labor lobby and the something-for-nothing parasitical crowd. The last session--and particularly HB 116--was a total joke, and should have been a wake-up call to all the actual citizens of Utah who have to work for a living and pay taxes here. If they can't get it right this time, I'm hoping to see a giant blood bath on election day, where those who refuse to actually represent their constituency are summarily shown the door and never invited back into public office again. Anything less than that will be evidence that our residents lack the awareness and/or intelligence that they need for this state to actually progress.
I get tired of hearing self-righteous conservative extremists say that everything they disagree with violates the Constitution and Republican principles. Are you kidding me? What arrogance! The very principles of which we are talking here were implemented by the Republicans. This is actually an effort towards a less free society. That's what the right wing really stands for. They just use the Constitution as a smoke screen.
Some clarity is needed on the recall of Russell Pearce and the election of Jerry Lewis in Arizona. The amnesty supporters who provided plenty of money to collect signatures were able to force the election. This special election allowed Democrats in the district along with disgruntled Republicans to oust Pearce. It was Pearce vs Republican Lewis. If a regular election would have been held a Democrat vs Republican it is likely Pearce would have won. It was inventive and amnesty people saw the opportunity and made it happen but it is a quirk.
It is far past time to send the illegal aliens back home. Watch the state senate, house, and governor. If they don't act to send the illegal's back home, send them back home, by booting them out of office on election day in November. Citizen's, here is your chance to be herd. If your elected representatives do not hear you, kick them out of office. It's that simple.
Whenever it comes down to putting pressure on illegal aliens to pack up and go home, certain groups wave their clout around the politicians. They are advocacy groups, unions (something Utahns don't understand), religious groups and business interests like the Chamber, restaurants and agribiz.
Such pressure is hard to take when you are a politician hungry for campaign cash and special interest votes.
Do the right thing Legislators! Uphold the law and the rights of our citizens.
I might add that the "right thing" was best expressed by Chairwoman Barbara Jordan in 1994. Shunning the notion that controlling immigration is anti-immmigrant, Jordan said, "...it is both a right and a responsibility of a democratic society to manage immigration so that it serves the national interest."
Illegal immigration is at a 40 year low people. I think we have more important things to worry about.
