Perhaps Reporter Cortez erred. I could find nothing on a DHS "Safe Communities" program.
There IS the Secure Communities program started by Bush in early 2008. They went to mostly urban county jails and linked the fingerprint scanners to federal databases. From there they deported a few of the total hits on illegal aliens.
Obama gutted the program last year because they were deporting too many people who weren't convicted of violent crimes. The perps were here illegally, too be sure; just not "bad" enough to deport.
Now we wait for them to commit a serious crime, then deport them.
Such a policy would be comical if it weren't true.
If "Safe Communities" is some new program, we'd all like to know the details of it.
