So much for "conservative" Utahans wanting LESS federal spending. Just keep holding out the hand and then complain about Obama spending too much money.
Ms. Molli:
Are all those needing help Republican? No!
Oh by the way FEMA will be able to help after the 83,000 people who they helped after Katrina pay back what FEMA wants! Just 4,266 dollars per family! Done by the Obama Administration! All over todays news. Just keeping you comment in perspective to actual reality and not some strawman arguement you are making to attack Republicans.
I took the time to read the article you quoted by Mr. Molli, unlike some. The Katrina aid recipients being asked to pay back money by FEMA under the Obama administration, are people who were paid in excess of what they should have received. Not that the over payments were made under that Bush administration has anything more to do with anything than that collections for those over payments are being made under the Obama administration.
Regardless, it does not change the fact that a conservative people who largely resent federal government now and repeatedly in the past go the federal government for money for emergency aid or money for projects or money for medical help when needed. Complaining about Obama does not change that fact.
Ms Molli and misplaced,
What's wrong with asking for federal aid when we qualify, even if we don't exactly agree with it existing in the first place? We pay for it! I don't agree with Social Security and think we should be accountable for our own retirement but I will certainly cash those SS checks (if it even still exists) because I paid into it! It's my money anyway! That's not hypocricy.
What I find interesting is Davis County may not qualify for the assistance because we had such a large volunteer effort to help clean up. If we would've sat around waiting for FEMA and the federal government to bail us out, then I guess they would've. So we have a choice: We can bust our tails and be self-reliant and slaves to no one or we can be lazy and not work hard and the Federal Government will sustain us. I don't know about the rest of you but I choose the former.

Ms Molli and misplaced,
"What's wrong with asking for federal aid when we qualify, even if we don't exactly agree with it existing in the first place?"
That is exactly the mindset that has got us where are right now.
On the one hand I have to agree with those that are irked by the fact that we're being denied federal aid for being TOO self-reliant. If anything, our volunteer effort helped reduce the amount of aid dollars we're asking for, which one would think would make FEMA more willing to pay out aid dollars.
On the other hand, I feel like if we're not going to get those aid dollars because we managed our own cleanup so well, then FEMA seriously needs to take a page from Davis County's (and Utah's) emergency response plans! Since FEMA awards money to cities and states throughout the U.S. to get them response-ready, then they need to ensure that those municipalities receiving those funds are maximizing those dollars, so that they too can manage their disasters just as well and reduce the need for aid dollars.
Ms Molli,
"That is exactly the mindset that has got us where are right now."
Huh? Care to comment on the merits of the rest of my statement? So am I a hypocrite if I take Social Security even though I think we should get rid of it, since I DO pay into it? Come on!
