Sorry Huntsman, but this country is divided by people like yourself that claim to be of one party and do the "look at me" maneuver when called upon a party you condoned. Then Barack came calling and you make your "claim" that country first??? Come on!
It would be nice to see an article that had more than "sound bites". TV and Radio news have resorted to those short, one sentence, "sound bites", but newspapers have the space to give the facts.
Surely that debate had more "meat" than the "fluff" reported.
Huntsman made a fool of himself by showing off his Mandarin. He just looked like a jerk.
It probably won't matter for New Hampshire, but Romney took a lot of blows today, including Huntsman's defense of his service to the nation. "Our nation is divided because of attitudes like that" got the biggest applause of he debate.
The "27 and a half minute" movie mentioned by Newt on how Romney profited directly as companies went bankrupt and employees lost their jobs will do some damage, certainly.
Utah isn't a battleground state, so the folks who blindly follow Mitt probably won't watch it, but it's produced by Republicans.
Huntsman is a "GOOD" man, and when compared to Mitt there really should be no comparison here in good old Utah. Huntsman was a 2 term govenor, who recieved 80% of the vote for re-election, Romney was a one termer and polls said at the end of his "1" term that he had an 54% unfavoribility factor when he was considering another run for govenor. "That" is why he didn't run again. Why did the citizens of Mass by majority not like him? Now to compare the two here in Utah why would he be more favorable here? Unbelievable! Wake up Utah he was not the savior of the olympics that the controlled press would like you to believe, He does not have the integrity, honesty, and intelligence that Jon Huntsman has period! He also doesn't have the experiences that Jon has. Quit being sheep.
There were only four people at the debate? I could have sworn I saw one or two others. Oh well, guess I was mistaken.
Re: Old Timer - thanks for the good laugh this morning I was hoping for it
Old Timer: Your comparing Apples to Oranges! Massachusetts is 85% Democrat and Utah 70% Republican. Huntsman walked out on his second term. Guess maybe it was the title he was after. As for integrety who are you to judge? You cannot qualify, quantify or anything an issue like this! Your belief of the truth may not be even what your dearest most trusted friend or family member may believe. As to the Olympics. The Utah Government, The President of the United States and the President of the Olympics as well as the leadership of the US Olympic team and others involved including businesses, sponsors, and the media broadcasting the games with investments involved all agreed Mitt Romney helped save the Games! But you know better? How? What info do you have that we all don't have? When coming to intellegence it is hard to measure, but factors that can somewhat help determine intellegence include: education, family success, respect from others, ability to successfully accomplish goals, multiple language skills as well as intangible spiritual aspects and problem solving skills. Looking at these it appears Mitt Romney is not the dumb lug your hit piece tries to portray!
re: Old Timer - I gotta go with "Wendall" and thank you for the laughs!
The Olympics were broken, swirled in politics and embarassment for Utah. Mitt led the games to a hugely successful set of events. I am also sure he is happy to stand behind his record in Mass. - in fact he continues to do so.
Huntsman was a good governor - right up to when he abandoned Utah (thankfully Herbert has done a nice job) to find his glory in China within the Obama administration! Excuse me????
He's not sure he's a Mormon, he's not sure he's a Utahn, he's not sure if he is republican...basically, he just isn't sure and he doesnt seem nearly strong enough to lead and unite this country.
Mitt Romney is no where more popular than here in Utah. But, face the facts, the rest of the U.S. is *significantly* different in culture, ethnicity, religious orientation than Utah. Mitt needs to walk through the refiner's fire to be moulded and burnished into a candidate that's acceptable not only by the Non-Mormon Republicans, but the millions of independents who will ultimately decide the election. So, although it may be difficult to watch your favorite candidate take a few body blows, it's actually a very good thing to have Jon Huntsmann and the other candidates challenge Mitt, especially in face-to-face debates. It helps along the process of producing a viable candidate to go up against Obama.
Huntsman was spot on when he pointed out that the partisan attack that Romney made upon him because he answered his country's call to serve, is the kind of divisive bomb throwing attack that has divided this country and led to the partisan grid lock that has all but paralyzed Washington. Huntsman has shown that Mitt Romney is....well let's just say that sometimes Romney is decency challenged.
Romney basically calls Huntsman a traitor because he served the United States instead of staying of home and serving the Republican party. What does Romney know about serving? Last time he had the chance be deferred.
Romney turned his back on the US with multiple deferrals so he could pursue his needs. He will toss our country under the bus if it profits him. He has a history of turning his back on people\groups\issues he claimed to support and then tossed them under the bus when they no longer benefited him. He does it without shame, guilt or remorse. He is ethically challenged.
Huntsman showed himself to be a small trite little man last night. I don't undersatnd why he felt the need to leave the others alone and go after only Romney. Huntsman doesn't have a chance in China to win the White House, why is he even in the race? Just to throw jabs at Romney from his boss, Obama?
re:Don17
I don't know where your data comes from, (MA 85% Democrats/Utah 70% Republican) but actually, MA and UT have similar splits with 62% UT voting Republican in 2008 and 62% MA voting Democratic.
Some argue that Utah's deep tradition of volunteerism, widespread support for the Olympic bid in the state and in the Mormon Church, and the global outpouring of goodwill, and cash, that followed the tragedy of the 9/11 terror attacks deserve much of the credit.
Sydney Fonnesbeck, who was on the Salt Lake City Council said, Romney just came in and gathered the money that was already (pledged) He didnt want to give anyone else any credit.
Federal Handouts: The amount of federal taxpayer money spent in Utah was more than the amount spent by lawmakers to support all seven Olympic Games held in the U.S. since 1904 combined.
Bain Capital began by taking stakes in new businesses But it turned to private equity Private equity firms frequently have the companies they buy take out massive loans to retool and pay back the new owners' investments. Not every business survived.
Pleeeeeeaaaaase. Can't you find a reporter that is less biased? In all of New Hampshire, is there yet even one interviewee still voting for Mitt Romney? This report was so pro-Huntsman it lost all credibility. Folks talk of Romney's flip-flopping on positions, but I would point out that he is steadfast in his faith while Huntsman just isn't sure about his.
Nice try! It didn't work with me.
KM. Gov. Huntsman was just responding to a despicable attach made the day before by Mr. Romney. The only small man on that stage this morning was Romney the "well oiled" Bain Capital job destroying "weathervane". But, please nominate Romney Republicans. He is getting easier and easier to beat in the general as he increasingly destroys his political mojo with the Tea Partiers and other conservative Republicans.
"This nation is divided, David, because of attitudes like that."
Perhaps the most honest thing I've heard this campaign.
Jon Huntsman probably will not win in New Hampshire; the odds are long that he will end up the Republican nominee for president.
However, he is an infinitely better candidate for the job than Mitt Romney.
I find it funny though that the lady said she wouldn't vote for Romney because he is too "big business". Lol, the Huntsman family is also big business and much richer than the Romney family.
If only Huntsman had started off his campaign with these debate performances. It's Mitts to lose.
So is this charade going to be over after the Primary then? This is the Real Clear Politics Average (several different polls) for 1/2-1/7/12 in New Hampshire:
Romney: 40%
Paul: 20%
Santorum 10%
Gingrich 8%
Perry 1%
Jon Huntsman's political career is finished after Tuesday. I seriously doubt he'll be elected to any statewide office again, let alone national office.
