That's right, Ute haters. Keep kicking them while they are down. Because you know they won't be down for long. Not long before they are up and smacking you around......

Congratulations to the team up north. It's not that much fun to bully you guys around year after year, so I get excited at any glimpse of hope for a brighter future for UofU basketball. I hope you keep improving up to the point where our games are competitive again.

As was pointed out earlier, BYU hit rock bottom not too long ago. We bounced back. You will too. Good luck and keep winning.

A lot of irrational exuberance. Enjoy it of course, wins should always be enjoyed, but one really bad team, losing on the road in overtime to an even worse team, is hardly ground shaking stuff. I do think the assertion that getting into conference play would make things easier for the utes is correct. The pac12 is a very poor basketball conference with some really bad teams (washington st.) so the utes picking up a few wins is a very high probability.

Congratulations though utes, as I said wins should always be enjoyed, especially when they are not easy for your team to get.

Congrats to the players and to the coaches.

Did anyone notice how it's impossible to get a photographic angle to avoid all of those empty chairs?

Have to give the utes credit for the biggest surprise of the year. Congrats on thier 4-10 record.

...sorry niners...just trying to keep up with you and the other heavy hitter utey trolls. How about telling us that fairytale again about that so called 1944 National Championship that uteys have so fondly created well over the last half century...just for old times sake??? The one that supposedly happened after getting ejected from the NIT in the first round.

Utah is now going to win the Pac 12 and coach K will be national coach of the year!

Take that Cougars!

Nice win, utes. Coach K seems to have gotten their attention, and it's always good to see a positive response from the team.

NeilT, thanks for that generalization about BYU fans. Sorry you've had bad experiences, but I guess every fan base has their quirks and stereotypes -- as for USU, based on the treatment BYU teams receive in Logan it's apparent that 1) your hatred for BYU runs deep and 2) you are obviously not alone....

Good Win, Utes.

No where to go but up!

Watkins had zero assists at halftime; six for the game.
Maybe Coach K gave a halftime speech about "its a team sport".

So I was watching Indiana play Kentucky earlier this year (awesome game) and noticed all the "NCAA Tournament Champions" banners in the rafters. 1940, 1953, 1976, 1981, and of course 1987 with a runner up in 2002.

Do you think that 1940 banner counts any less towards their total number of championships than 1987? Don't think so.

That being said, the Utes have a long way back to get to where the program was at just a few years ago. It will happen.

Congrats on a great win Utes! Keep your heads up.

I'm a die hard cougar, but I have to congratulate the Utes on their win last night. Great rebound after the bad Colorado loss. It seemed near impossible that a team could play so badly. I hope Ute fans can see that a team can do everything wrong one game, but that doesn't mean that's who they are.

We got humiliated by the U on the football field, but our season says that's not who we were. (I say "we" as a fan, and to differentiate who I'm talking about.)

If the Utes play like they did last night, there are a few more W's coming this season. USC and UCLA look really weak.

And to the commenters that frequently bring up both teams post season history, there are schools that would love to make it half as often as both of our schools have. Yes, Utah has gone farther than BYU. I cheered for Utah to win the championship game. It wasn't easy, but I did.

Go Utes! Go Cougars!

Good win for Utah. Knowing they can win close games is huge for confidence.

A little correction to Utah Tournament history the last 10 yrs.

2005 Lost the Them in the Sweet 16.
2008 Lost to Arizona in the 2nd round to an underachieving team with Chase Budinger and Jordan Hill. Go ahead and google those guys and see where they are at.

Keep it going Utes!

SoonerUte, numbers aren't always telling. Despite Jig's assist numbers being down in the first half, the offense ran much more smoothly in the first half than the first 10 or 12 minutes of the second half. Coach K was absolutely right, to start the second half they almost seemed like they were just content to have been leading in the game and played the first five minutes very complacently. It wasn't until we started to get into foul trouble and didn't have any calls going our way that several players, Jiggy included, took some pride and played hard for a win. I thought Jiggy was much more selfish driving the ball rather than running the plays in the second half, but if that's what it takes to set him up to win the game I'll take it.

Wow...the Pac12 must be a dynamic conference...I'm impressed...I hope no one else in the Pac12 twelve play San Diego and NAIA school to spoil their records...

I am really impressed with the Pac12...Wow

Congratulations to the coaches and players on fighting through to win. They could have easily rolled over early in the second half when things weren't going their way, but they battled back to tie it and win in overtime. Maybe they've learned a little from the football team.

You BYU fans who love to gloat about how bad the Utes are and our attendance need to be careful. You're exposing your shallowness. Even as bad as this team is, they already have won 4 times as many games as BYU's worst team. Regarding attendance, it wasn't too long ago that BYU was filling the MC seats by offering $1 tickets to LDS youth groups all over Utah. Don't try to deny it. I saw the letters my Bishop got from the BYU athletic department every year. The same thing was done for football during the Gary Crowton era. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

As expected...the schedule is getting easier in conference play!

Salt Lake City, UT

Congrats to the Utes. That Larry has his team playing hard this deep into a difficult season says good things about coach and players.

As Greg Wrubell would say, "No!! That is impossible. That is impossible."

From a BYU fan -- Wrubell is horrible.

i coulda sworn utah was done winning games according to the delusional y fans who think everything they do is superior even if its proven not.

A win is a good time to congratulate your team, not obsess over fans of other teams.

People often use the "The NIT was the better tournament" argument to denigrate the Utes 1944 title. The problem with that logic? They also won the 1947 NIT with many of the same players (I knew several of them), so which do you acknowledge? Better to acknowledge both their NCAA and NIT titles, since BYU won the 1951 NIT behind #2 draft pick, NBA Rookie of the Year and 5 time NBA All Star Mel Hutchins and #16 pick Roland Minson, and the 1966 NIT as well.

Many of us grew up rooting for BOTH Utah and BYU, but having a favorite in head-to-head match-ups.

Bountiful, UT

Chris B - Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It was a nice win vs. a decent Washington State team. The team competed and showed some effort. Coach Krystko showed some game time coaching skills down the stretch and the Utes won.

To say Utah now has a shot at 9-10 wins is just downright silly talk. That would make Kryskto the coach of the year. Let's hope the Utes get to 5 wins, then maybe we can talk about 6 wins. Next year we can talk about getting into the 10 win range. That is something to build on - but don't put the ridiculous goal of 9-10 wins on this team.

I'm really happy for the Coaching staff and the players. They continue to battle even though most of them don't have a future with the Utes beyond this season. They will be outmanned in every game they play from here on out. It is great to see Krystko getting them to play hard. Great win last night.
