I am surprised fireworks are legal in the summer in Utah. It seems the risk of wildfires would be too great.

If you figure most of the people in Utah live along the wasatch front, then most of the people in utah don't live close to 'wildlands'.

Thank goodness some sanity is prevailing. July 4th was a debacle... fireworks till the wee hours of the morning on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I appreciate that people want to celebrate with a bang, but there are those of us who have to go to work and make a living... we like to get a good night's sleep. I'm hoping we won't have to put up with 4 days of fireworks again this weekend.

I couldn't care less about how many days fireworks are allowed, but the 11 p.m. rule is the best idea to come out of our braindead legislature in a long time. I've never understood why people feel the need to shoot off fireworks at 3 a.m....it's no darker at 3 than it is at 10 p.m.

I hope this amendment passes. Then the question is, will Utahns obey the new law? When I see total disregard for our other fireworks laws, I'm forced to conclude not.

Most people may live along the Wasatch, but down here in Cedar this summer the dry brush was several feet high from all the precipitation and the fireworks free-for-all was downright frightening from a fire perspective. The only thing that saved us were frequent rains in July including rain after midnight on the 4th.

A simple "no open flames within 100 feet of an occupied structure" ordinance would put an end to most of the firework problems... as most fireworks are set off in neighborhoods where the houses are really really close together.

Why don't the State of utah just ban fireworks all over... then they will have no more problems like this?

"Everyone likes to have a nice fireworks show and celebrate these holidays," he said.

Well I know a good many vets like me who do not care for fireworks. This is not how we prefer to celebrate things or holidays. We are happy to be alive and in mostly one piece. Mostly. Of course I can't speak for any vets other than myself but come on people enough with the fireworks.

I honestly have tried to understand and not be a downer about this thing but this past Fourth of July and Pioneer Day really showcased the level of disregard and stupidity some people around here have in regards to fireworks.

I hate the fact that fireworks can be used for so long here now. We have an early schedule with kids and the late fireworks keeps us up. They are so loud. I don't know one family that likes them except the person using them. It would be fine if they could use them without bothering us but that is impossible. Why not 11 on the 4th and 10 on the other days. Be considerate of those with young kids and the elderly. Maybe we could start our dog barking at 6 to wake you up since you insist on keeping us up at night.
