And they rightfully should fall further... The oil companies extremely high profits are criminal.

Isn't this where somebody's supposed to rail on Obama for being the worst president in history and having no idea how the economy works?

Gasoline princes around Louisville, KY jumped up around 30 cents in a gallon just before Christmas weekend - just in time for the Holiday rush. Even had one station drop below the $2.99 mark for a couple days before shooting back up to $2.30 a gallon overnight. No joy here at the pump for sure!

Why is diesel a buck more a gallon than gas? Its the lefovers from refining.

owlmaster: what extremely high profits? Are you talking dollar amount or a percentage?

@10CC: what did Obama have to do with the drop in gasoline prices?

What a roller coaster we have for fuel prices in this country.

One local oil company that gets all their crude oil from Wyoming charges the highest prices, is the first to go up and the last to come down, even though they don't get a drop from overseas. Of course all the stations match them, too. It must be nice to regulate your own profits on a commodity that is necessary for eevryone to have to survive. (Farmers finally got that hint and the result is higher food prices.....surprised, anyone?)

This is anything but a "free market."

Greed is supreme!!! It's a bigger motivator than love, sorry to say.

It doesn't matter how much prices have dropped since last month = they're still a lot higher than a year ago.

Drill on land and build some more refining capacity!!

Between big oil and the healthcare industry, this nation is going broke!!

And get the federal government out of our way (state government, too) so we can enjoy freedom and a little bit of quality of life, please.

y'all want your 'quality of life', so then, y'all can pay for it too!

as this country weans itself off the travails and sweat of honest work, as we spend far beyond our means, as we toss away trillions of dollars (most directly into landfills) on imported goods (that cost us our local jobs), and we expect some quick wheeled 200hp jaunt to the market a half mile down the road to ease our ill's, then guess what!

you're going to pay through the nose for all that cushy, easy, fast, noisy and short term ' quality of life'.

so have Happy New year too!

when China finally comes up to speed, starts fully it's industrial machine, and they begin sucking up ten time more fuel as we can, don't expect things to get any better.

& it won't matter how many billions the 1% have, they won't share it!

Wow, things sound just grand in New York. I wonder if you've ever been "out west" when things aren't packed so tightly you can hear someone three apartments away open their refrigerator. Fuel is critical "out on the range" and there's no need to try and get it in the Gulf when there's more reserves in North and South Dakota than the Middle East or we can't go after it in Alaska on a spot of ground smaller in size than the footprint for the Salt Lake International Airport because of all the tree-huggers in NYC that are saving the planet.

Some of us think we have a disasater in the White House and the US Congress after the populated areas of the country have ruined our economy the best they could with their liberal laws. While horse-and-buggy days are gone, not everyone in the aging baby-boomer poulation is healthy enough to ride a bicycle everywhere or anywhere. Going green costs more in green-backs so that is really what's driving that agenda. Just look at Al Gore and his fine example of irresponsible consumer habits as he preaches austerity to everyone, for example.

@hapticz: Get real. China's economy is a bubble supported by massive government stimulation. In a few years it will pop, just like ours did, and the Chinese will have a recession too.

@toosmartforyou: Forget about drilling more in the US. Oil prices will never fall as long as speculators and the international money market are playing with them.

All the oil in the world is put into one big pot and everyone bids on it. Doesn't matter if it comes from the US, Canada or the ME, everyone gets a shot at it. Look at the Canadians... oil is one of Canada's major products yet they pay more for gasoline than we do. Why? Because they export nearly all of their production and have to import oil from elsewhere to run the nation.

It's an absurd game created by greedy people so they can get rich.

Each oil producing country needs to use its own product first, then it can feel free to export whatever is remaining. Imported oil should carry a different price from domestically produced oil.

Until we end the games and get the greed and corruption out of industry nothing will change.
