Governor Herbert just doesn't do enough to cut wasteful government spending on the state level. Because revenue is up, due to taxes collected on increased spending, does not provide an excuse to stop trimming the budget. It really is far past time to vote Herbert out.
Let's not restore the retirement system for state employees that are being paid 20% under market share. My advice to the state workers with marketable skills is bail now and go somewhere with benefits.
âNext year, the majority of lawmakers are also up for re-election, Burbank noted,â
It is a good time for Utahns to reexamine its caucus system. This system favors those occupations which have more free time to get involved, such as real estate salesmen and multi level marketers. Under such a system you would expect a disproportionate share of legislators coming from and representing those professions. For the sake of my grandchildren living in Utah, I would like to see some other voices manifested.
The Governor plays both sides of the budget issue. Utah doesn't get as many federal dollars because it votes Republicans. The Governor is using charts and data that shows what he wants to show as data can be manipulated to do that. According to the article, the state is showing the data. The state was quick to take the highway money and that is good because most of the roadwork is on I-15 and I-80 and connectors. We pay taxes for Interstate roads to be maintained and we're good at that. However, the Utah county stretch is where the Governor maneuvered dollars and got some benefit for his coffers and election. He also got some donations from the Alton Coal Company and got their permit approved quickly. Utah County will benefit from that money and at $1.2 billion that is quite a bit plus the states portion. The Governor wants to be re-elected for a real term. There was a good article on Integrity in today's DN edition that political people should read. Honesty is the best policy in this world and the one that will be coming where there are judgements on truly honest.
