Ther is obviously some behind the scenes positioning going on in this competition. It poses as an open competition, but it can be argued that the network is insuring its ability to promote a group that meets its objectives, which is okay, but let's get real. Dartmouth made some critical errors over the last wo weeks and still ousted Afro Blue (which was flawless last night) and Vocal Point ( the only non-ethnically diverse group).
The music has been wonderful, but please don't tell us that this is an objective competition.
I have to agree. The judges are fickle at best with what they are expecting from the musicians. Shawn has repeatedly praised groups for "making the song your own." But when it came to a song that he personally grew up liking he expected Vocal Point to sound like the original singer. To tell Ben he has a beautiful voice and that it was being held against him was just wrong. Ben Fold's is the only one with technical advice and I think Sara hears "pitch problems" only when she wants to. The Dartmouth Aires had terrible pitch problems throughout the competition, including and especially the QUEEN medley they did and Sara praised it as her favorite performance of the competition. I love the music but the judges have to go!
