That last TD pass from Jake, channeling Riley was awesome. I sure hope it is a sign of things to come.
Great day of football!
Unbelievable upsets;
Baylor beat Oklahoma
USC beat Oregon State
BYU beat Idaho State and did so with a clinic!
You gotta love college football!
Hang in there Band of Lil Brothers
Best outing of the year for Heaps. Granted, he had great protection, but he really did look sharp. He's definitely a keeper. More importantly, as the ESPN announcers continued to mention, this team is young. It will be really good next year.
As important has Heap's performance was Doman's play calling. Clearly he is learning his job. Fun to see.
Hard to believe that DiLuigi is a senior. He had a nice game. NMSU has a couple of good cover guys, especially the one on Hoffman, but that left Apo open. Nice win. They took care of business, but looked impressive doing it. Somehow it was a much better game than BYU v Idaho against is better opponent. But the result was pretty much the same.
I saw real improvement across the board.
Calm down everyone remember this was WAC opposition. Yes the WAC did the Cougars a solid by lining up some teams to play for the 2011 Independent season.
However one must keep things in there proper prospective with both Riley and Jake and the rest of the team.
Yes the future looks very good and lets hope we stay independent and hang on to the ESPN contract instead of jumping in with the two year BCS potential with the Big East.
Breaking the ESPN contract in my opinion is a huge deal breaker. Why on earth would you dump a guaranteed nationally televised coverage on ESPN programming for a shot at a two year possibility for a BCS bowl. That is pure knuckle head-ism.
Please be smart here and stay with the long term ESPN coverage.
I was so BORED watching this game.
BYU beating up on bad teams is not football. It is a waste of time.
I am a huge BYU fan, but Utah's football program is currently better than BYU's. I guess I am a bit tired of all the "talk" some BYU fans and media are willing to do to pump up BYU football.
BYU football is very average right now. I think if roles were reversed, every BYU fan in the nation would be saying what a great comeback season they are having. The BYU community needs to "get real" and quit making excuses. Our football team is maybe a top 50 right now, and I think that is fair.
I give props to the Utes for making a run at a Pac-10 C-ship game after losing their starting QB. Their defense is championship caliber as is their special teams. Their running game is good enough and probably could be a lot better if they had a better passing attack.
As far as BYU is concerned, hey we lost to Texas by 1, to TCU by 10 and to Utah by 44. The BYU offense is stagnant and without misdirection when given our talent level, misdirection should be an absolute. Doman needs more time, just like Heaps.
@rainintime: Huge BYU fan but Ute sympathizer. All the 'talk' is what fans do. If the BYU offense is "without misdirection" does that mean that is has direction?

You are no fan of BYU. Show some courage. You are either a Utah fan that has no integrity, or a "huge" fair-weather BYU fan.
I don't know which is worse.
@majmajor
What is far worse than the scenario you present is a fan like you who apparently believes that team loyalty demands that you overlook reality in order to artificially inflate the quality of the program you support.
I respect RaininTime and wish more fans of both the Y and the U were able to be a bit more objective and show RaininTime's class in being able to respect the other team and acknowledge its achievements. It would significantly elevate the discussions on these boards.
As a U fan, I certainly would like to think I would be as gracious as RaininTime if the roles were reversed.
Heaps does do a good job against week competition. And, as someone wrote, Doman is growing in his responsibilities.
