I don't find that "Thanksgiving Farewell" cartoon funny at all. This is a living being, albeit not human. To make a joke over its being killed in a few days is--at least to me--cruel and insensitive.
Thank God I'm a vegetarian. I urge you to try it, not just out of compassion but for terrifically improved personal health. As for your missing turkey at Thanksgiving, there are a lot of great substitutes (check them out at Whole Foods).
And here's a tip: if you pour enough gravy on *anything* it's going to taste like turkey. I tried it on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich once, and it honestly tasted like a turkey dinner. (Granted, a turkey who'd eaten a lot of peanuts.)
