    Re: Veritas Aequitas

Sorry you were around to witness the Utes 2008 season.

4 victories over teams in final top 25, 14 point Sugar Bowl win over Alabama.

Grandpa tells us about how good BYU was way back when. He also tells us how he walked 16 miles to school in the snow, up hill both ways.
BYU barely beat a 6-6 Michigan team in their bowl game.
1984 BYU, only team ever to win title without beating a team ranked in final top 25.

Had Montana State not played the Utes this year, they'd be undefeated. BYU never played a defense as good at Utah's is this year. Who knows maybe 2011 montana state is better than 1984 BYU.

Congrats on all those conference invites. Pac-12 denied you, Big-12 denied you, now the Big East is even denying you.

Congrats on beating no one in 1984, keep bragging about even though you probably weren't even born.

    @uu32

No the Sugar Bowl banner is not a "bad thing". Not by a long shot. It is definately something that utah should hang with pride. But it is not "almost" a National Championship. It is simply a good bowl win. All 2nd place, or 4th for that matter, is is just another something that isn't the champion. It is nice to get, it is worth acknowledging, but it is still not the Champion and it is still not anything anyone will ever remember outside of utah fans and the BYU fans who are constantly reminded of it by utah fans.

It is no better than BYU's Cotton Bowl win and no more note worthy. It is demonstrably less than BYU's Holiday Bowl victory over Michigan because that win resulted in a unanimous National Championship. Those things are just a matter of the historical record.

You desperately cling to Meyer because he's the only Utah coach who's even come close to winning a national title.

    -------------

Not true. In 2008, Kyle finished #2 (16 AP votes for first place)."

    ===

And we all remember the many parades for almost backing into an NC. (I believe it was three parades)...

Where do we find the 2nd place trophy?

Oh, that's right, is a "banner of BCS participation" hanging outside RES.

You are SO cute! You think when you change screen names from Red to Crimson and "recommend" your own posts we can't tell?

"Would THE Urban Meyer be the successful coach he is today if he was never hired on at Utah?"

Meyer was a successful at coach BEFORE he came to Utah.

Let's get rational: Meyer was successful BEFORE he came to Utah, Utah not-so-much. That is why Chris Hill hired him. He was Mid-America Coach of the year at Bowling Green, where he took BG from 2-9 to 8-3 his first year, 9-2 his second, then moved on to Utah, also a two-year stepping stone. If Utah was already ON the map, he'd have stayed.

McBride laid the foundation, and under McBride the Utes were ranked once for the second time EVER. Under Meyer the Utes were ranked twice and that put Utah on the football map.

I challenge you to ask 9 Ute fans -- over the age of 30, double your age -- if Meyer put Utah on the Map of if Utah put Meyer on the map.

Whittingham was a distant 2nd in the AP poll, but the Utes never had a chance of actually displacing Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators from the top perch.

In the offical BCS poll (the Coaches poll), the Utes finished a distant 4th.

"Former" Utah coach.. lol He moved into Utah and left just as quickly. Nobody remembers him for his time at the U. He is a non-story - he rode his wave through short-term success and moved out of coaching because he couldn't keep up with the reputation.

He won't accept another coaching job anywhere.

The Y does have a habit of letting Great Coaching talent go, and then hiring fireside coordinators to run their program into the ground.

Just think how dangerous the Y could have been if, Norm Chow was at the helm or even Coach Whit.

In regard to the article, there is a simile; Urban enjoys ESPN announcing as much as the Y like's touting their Friday night ESPN contract. Urban won't coach football just like the Y won't hire and keep a decent coaching staff.

I did a spit-take at that one. Utah put MEYER on the map, huh! LOL!"

You are irRational! Let me put it to you this way. Would THE Urban Meyer be the successful coach he is today if he was never hired on at Utah? Utah had the potential for greatness but didn't have the coach to get them there. Urban took Utah over the hump and handed off the program to Kyle Whittingham who continues to develop a great program and lead them into the Pac-12.

I hope your spit-take is all over your computer! LOL!!!

You desperately cling to Meyer because he's the only Utah coach who's even come close to winning a national title. Unfortunately for U, he was smart enough to figure out that he'd never be able to win a championship at Utah, so he abandonned the Utes for a program where he could win a title.

Crowton is a creative play caller, but he was a disaster as a head coach.

By your logic, however, BYU can claim another 3 or 4 national championships by way of Crowton and Chow, as well as several NFL championships.

When your program is devoid of any real accomplishments of your own, desperately trying to associate yourself with vicarious accomplishments of others is the only thing you can do to feel good about yourself.

    Swoopy, you again,

"Meyer was a carpet-bagger who only used Utah as a stepping stone.

The fact that the kids on the hill continue to cling to him as if he were one of their own shows just how desperate they are for recognition."

Yes, Meyer was our carpet-bagger! I guess Crowton was yours!

And yes the kids on the hill do cling to greatness created at the U, where Meyer continued onto 2 National Titles. The Y on the other hand, does not cling on to greatness, and fires great talent and he (Crowton) goes on to win a National Championship at LSU!

You set me up perfect Swoopy

I knew Urban Meyer when he was at Utah.

Personally, I don't think he'll get back into coaching, as tempting as the opportunity is and as competitive as he is, because he knows the stress could be (literally) fatal.

Meyer is a great man - I think he'll pass on this and other coaching jobs.

Hello, McFly! I wonder why the DNews mentions "Former Utah coach Urban Meyer". Maybe......This is a Local paper here in Utah, home of the University of Utah, you know the school that put Coach Meyer on the map. (52-21 beating of byu/Fiesta Bowl Team). I'm sure you remember them!

    You don't measure up Johnson!

Do you honestly think Urban is dumb enough to step into that mess? Not a chance. That would be the equivalent of Steve Jobs retiring from Apple to take the CEO job at Enron right after they were caught cooking the books. Urban's living the dream right now - why would he throw that away to take over as captain of the Titanic after it's already hit the iceberg?

    TOO:

Back here in Philadelphia, Meyer had been rumored as Joe's successor months before the current scandal broke out. Schiano and Golden too. At Paterno's advanced age, few had any idea how proactive they'd need to be prior to him announcing a retirement that was deemed inevitable. Fact is, nobody really expected him to have lasted this long. It's not as if the fans and alumni were eager to see him leave; he's a winner. It's just that we knew that one day he would.

Everyone knows the rumors aren't even starting yet. The man was fired 12 hours ago for crying out loud. This is just a story, no rumors are even started and we all know Penn State isn't even thinking about the next head coach.
