After his refusal to arrest illegal alien trespassers (enforce the law in other words), we wouldn't be voting for him for much of anything anyway.

Shurtleff is completely delusional if he thinks he has a snowball's chance of becoming President of the U. All of the "academics" at the U hate his guts and would never allow him to become their boss. Shurtleff is WAY too right-wing for their tastes. Whatever semi-qualified individual is the most left-leaning will get the nod, guaranteed. Also, I love how Shurtleff tried to compare himself with some liberal Harvard grad....hilariously delusional.

He's a nice guy, but I seriously doubt whether his academic credentials would have allowed him to become a professor, let alone president of the university. That he is comparing himself to a Harvard Grad and Rhodes Scholar makes him sound utterly clueless.

Politics is done with Shurtleff.

It is good he is done with politics because he has failed the citizens of Utah by failing to uphold the law. That being said, he does not have the judgement to run a University.

Mark Shurtleff should just go back into private practice. He just doesn't have the ability and fortitude required to run a great University. He lost a lost of respect when he enforced only the law's which he felt good about. Far past time to get him out of the public eye.

Traditionally, there has been a neglect of higher education in Utah. Lately, there is a deliberate attack on Higher Education going on. I suspect Shurtleff's bid for the U Presidents' job is part of that attack. Conservative extremists think higher education is too liberal and too unfreindly to religion, so they want to take control of Higher Ed in Utah.
