What about the christian ones?
This is an LDS newspaper and both contestants are LDS. I wonder when they will figure out they are of the same religion.
Mightymight:
The article A) would have been a lot longer than it already was, and B) This came in my Deseret News "Mormon Edition" paper online, so I'm assuming they're going to focus on Mormons in the spotlight, and finally C) Mormons are Christians.
Survivor (of which I have never seen a full episode simply because it is so incredibly cheesy), has nothing, in my opinion, for anyone who claims to have Christian values to waste their time on, let alone for those who have a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
That the show is so popular attests to the regrettable fact that viewers have little direction in their lives and nothing whatsoever worthwhile with which to occupy themselves and their time.
That Mormon Times spends any time at all reporting about the show makes me question whether some contributors to it can find anything uplifting to report.
And finally, that I have found forty-five seconds in writing this comment should make all readers of it wonder about me.
I might have to go along with yarrlydarb here on many points.
Personally, I'm not into "reality" television - don't watch much TV at all. Unfortunately, many lives seem to revolve around such things and as a result there will always be a news story - just as polls declare, some of the web sites with the most 'hits' are the ones reporting on celebrity trivia.
I suspect if we spent more time worrying and working on solving personal problems and strengthening our families - instead of trying to take our cues from celebrity entanglements, the world might be a better place.
The only reality I can really deal with is that I have a family I love very much and supporting them is increasingly harder in this declining world. I'm focused on not getting voted out of my reality.
darb and gaard: I bet u a million bucks if one of your family members were on the show, you'd be wasting your so-called quality time watching.... enough with the holier than thou attitude.
I'm kind of with Tama. I don't normally watch these kinds of shows, but if I find out there is someone who is LDS on the show, I'll watch while they're on. I don't have a lot of time to watch TV, but I will in these cases. It is nice to see these types of articles for that reason.
The COCONUT was suspended between two ropes? This is difficult, why? Guess I should turn on my television...though I prefer the amusement of reading and envisioning it here.
Spikey... sorry, not true.
Utah must be having a twin "Mormon Moment" again. Cherry-picking similarities while failing to mention major differences is a powerful way to misrepresent and mislead. Mormon on 'Survivor' almost voted off. Dawn Meehan, a BYU English professor from South Jordan, won one of two immunity necklaces during the individual challenge. Each contestant had to stand on a board and hold a coconut suspended on two ropes. The man and the woman who lasted the longest without falling or dropping their coconut through each round won. From what I've seen of Survivor, I wouldn't be too quick to brag that Mormons are found participating on the program. Except for extreme DN moderator religious people who live, breath, and eat scripture all day long, if you take religion out of these two contestants story, they are, just people being people. The cowboy has played a low-key smart game and will make it to the merge then we will see what he can do. Rick Nelson, 51, a rancher from Aurora, Utah, who has a handlebar mustache and is commonly seen wearing a cowboy hat, is part of the Upolu Tribe.
I can't wait till the tribe knows their LDS.
