BYU hasn't played either team in a while, so either one would be something fun
and new, but a BYU/SMU bowl game rematch would be great.
Ute "fans"/trolls have no right of coming on her and making comments.
By the way it's looking, Utah will not even be going to a bowl game.
Let's play SMU, they're not as good as So. Miss so it will fit in well with this
year's slate of games...
How can they predict that in the Las Vegas bowl it will be TCU against Utah?
So either SMU or SMU?I hope its the Southern Methodist as they got
invited to a BCS conference. Let's see what they're about.
Since when is beating an FCS (1-AA) opponent making a team bowl worthy?
MJB | 2:40 p.m. Oct. 24, 2011 Tooele, UT How can they predict that
in the Las Vegas bowl it will be TCU against Utah? >They can predict that the Utes can go anywhere. They predicted that the Utes
would be in the PAC 10/2 championship game, and where did that get them.At least BYU will go to a bowl. The Utes ended their season
after the BYU game.
The NCAA started a few years ago allowing wins against FCS opponents count in
the win category for bowl eligibility. There was a close call about five years
ago when because of so many bowls, there almost was not enough teams to play. It
is all watered down anyway and no one has the ability to say "we're number
one" because of lack of a playoff. And that might open up a whole
SLC BYU Fan | 2:46 p.m. Oct. 24, 2011 Salt Lake City, UT Since when
is beating an FCS (1-AA) opponent making a team bowl worthy? >Now.It doesn't matter when you beat the FCS team. Many teams
get those wins early in the season.
Agree. No Ute should be on here giving bowling advice when they aren't even
going to one. Who knows how they picked Utah to play TCU.
Seriously, ESPN has some of the worst "experts" I've ever seen. I
don't know how they pick Alabama to play for the NC. LSU is such a better team.
BYU should play the best team. It's always better to play the
better team, especially if it's a CUSA opponent. Would Bronco really want to
play the second place team when they can play the first? "We're thrilled
to see our guys execute vs a lower level CUSA team. It will be a great
matchup." He'd never say that. We all know he'd want the better team.
"Since when is beating an FCS (1-AA) opponent making a team bowl
worthy?"When a team has already beaten schools from the PAC,
SEC, CUSA, and WAC (albeit two of the worst).
Bring it! BYU v SMU would be fun, plus that June Jones coached Hawaii all those
Either team should provide a good challenge for BYU and should make for a great
game. Who knows, a win in the bowl may put BYU back into the top25.
slc BYU fanSince it was accompanied by 5 other victories.
I would love to see a rematch of the 1980 Miracle Bowl with SMU except for the
fact that the Armed Forces Bowl is being played on SMU's home field due to
stadium renovations at TCU. I would rather the Cougars play their bowl game on a
neutral field so I hope they get Southern Miss.
Whoop-ti-do-da...... Armed Forces Bowl? Give me a break When it comes down to
it the only bowl games I care about are:Rose BowlOrange
BowlFiesta BowlSugar Bowl(New Orleans-National Championship)The other Bowls are a waste of space and teams and that includes byu
& utah, and if Utah makes a bowl game this year without a QB, then I will
sit in my birthday suit on top of Eagle gate!
Utes get to count their win against Montana State, a FCS (1-AA) team, and they
still may not have enough wins to qualify for a bowl. FBS teams can
count one win against an FCS team towards their bowl eligibility, but if they
play two FCS teams, they can still only count one.Liberty Bowl gets
Conf USA winner. Armed Forces Bowl gets Conf USA #3 pick. Houston
will likely win the conference. Southern Miss and SMU are both good teams this
year, but Tulsa could be in the running also. Even though they are 4-3, their 3
loses are to Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, and Boise St - all Top 10, non-conference
teams. Any of the three will be far better opponents than last years UTEP
match-up.As much as I dislike the Ute trolls, I hope Utah gets bowl
eligible. That would be a black eye against the program and the state to have a
losing record in their first year in an AQ conference.
SLC BYU Fan"The NCAA allows one victory per season over a Division I
FCS (formerly I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility".
BYU is far away from a credible bowl game. I can't believe that a team with the
schedule that BYU has played this year would be even considered for a bowl game.
Yes, many of the larger schools play less well known teams at the beginning of
the season, not in the middle of the season. This was once a very strong program
and now has just about dropped out of sight. It is time to take a closer look at
where this program is going and the coaching staff.
A rematch with SMU would be ok with me...Love to see the plug get pulled on
Craig James anytime.
FYI - Teams are allowed to count 1 win over a division 1-AA opponent toward bowl
eligibility, but no more than that. This is why Arizona State was not eligible
for a bowl game last year, despite having a 6-6 record. Two of their wins were
over FCS opponents.I like the rule. I'm sure Utah fans do as well,
because they would still be 4 wins short of bowl eligibility without it.
Montana State is @ Idaho State this Saturday.Head to head
competition should resolve the "who is better" question.
Where's Stockton???I completely forgot about Craig James! Watching
him stew in is own juices would be worth it.
SUNNY ALL DAY Oregon State at Utah will also be a nice indicator.
Imagine that, two weeks in a row opposing Orange and Black, suddenly cheering
SUNNY ALL DAY and Y Grad/Y Dad:What difference would it make
"who is better" between 2 FCS teams? Especially since even in the
unlikely event that ISU actually DOES upset MSU, Utah will have STILL pounded
the Y 54-10 in Provo last month. So either way, Utah > than their little
brothers in Provo.
@ TroutThe Utes are headed to what bowl in 2011 ? Crickets !
Before the season the Ute trolls told us that the BYU-Utah game would mean so
much more to BYU than Utah since they had the whole of their PAC schedule to
play. Then BYU came out and played a dud, while Utah put up their best game of
the season to date... Good thing they have that PAC schedule to console
them.I know, I know. Scoreboard. But as a Y fan I can't help but
be sad that we're playing a better QB now while the U is playing a worse one.
Naval vet,One of the nuances that seems to be lost on you is called
"progression throughout the season." Granted, teams that play well all
season long don't worry about it as much as teams (and fans) like BYU. Teams (and fans) like Utah should worry about it a whole lot. When BYU
goes to it's pathetic little bowl game will Utah fans be saying "better to
stay home than go to one of those penny ante games."Yes, the
smell of 54-10 will hang around Provo for at least a year, but what does it
smell like up on the hill? This weekend, I think it will smell a whole lot like
beaver, and that ain't roses my friend!
