If there is one thing that all Americans - conservative to liberal - can and should get behind it is this sort of thing. The people featured in this article are homeless and need help and we should help them. Back in the mid 1900's there was the CCC (civilian conservation corp) where men who couldn't find work could work and provide a great service to the country in the process by doing all sorts of jobs for the forest service to general metro clean up and repair projects. There are those who won't work and just want hand outs but clearly there are many others such as this man who will work and just need a hand up for a while to support his family.

I can hear it now as the "compassionate conservatives" wail: Why doesn't he just get busy and find a job? Be personally responsible. Yammer, yammer, etc, etc.

As for Patriot's idea of bringing back the CCC, what do you think would happen if Obama tried it? Mercy! The yowling would reach fever pitch, wouldn't it?

Yet isn't his proposal to repair crumbling infrastructure very similar to CCC?

But listen to the Republican hypocrisy howling . . . .

The look on the faces of the couple in this picture is just haunting.

We are so blessed to go home to warm fires, good food and our many luxuries, but it is so hard to see those faces and not do our best to find meaningfull ways to help them.

As hard as it is to know that there are the homeless amoung us, it is even worse when it is so cold outside.
