There is hope. This needs to happen more often. Wages will rise and more people will have jobs.

What we need to start doing is teaching our children that no job is menial if it benefits you or helps someone else. In other words we need to start being willing to work again even if its not a cushy job. It may be hard work but it puts food on your table and feeds your kids. People keep saying that we need to bring back manufacturing jobs but until people are willing to work them it does no good to try to bring them back.

This is a publicity diversion by Obama. Pick several big name companies, work with them to lay off their illegal employees, in exchange for no prosecution. Then play the publicity game.

The people here illegally are allowed to find work at other businesses (search Obamas silent raids in a search engine).

This is busy work, it accomplishes nothing and wastes government money when the people are not deported.

The biggest falsehood that is told about illegal immigrants is that they take jobs away from citizens. What jobs are taken away? The only jobs that have limits on them are government jobs, which are never filled by "illegals".

Productive workers are just that. Productive. Free movement of capital and labor supported by property rights are part of the market recipe for economic growth. Tariffs, work restrictions, import quotas, regulations, onerous professional licensing and continuing education to limit newcomers and part-timers, and 'buy local programs' are just a few of the idiotic ideas that politicians come up with that slow economic growth and increase prices to consumers.

As a consumer, I want to exchange as few dollars as I can for boatloads of goods. Getting between me and that desired transaction is a terrible idea that only special interests and their puppets in government could want. Please! Open up the border, I have always wanted a gardener and a cook. Believe me. No gringo wants this job.

I'm glad that the Grand America is firing these illegal employees. I wish DHS would conduct more of these types of investigations.

Skitarghee similar arguments were used by the South before the Civil War.

Immigration reform is a political hot potato.

Our politicians are afraid to touch it. And that goes for both sides.

There is a huge Hispanic population in this country. Neither party wants to alienate (no pun intended) that increasingly large voting block.

There is some validity in this articles statements. Legally employed American workers if they are fired or laid off have a much harder time proving themselves and it keeps them unemployed. I know of americans who have been laid off and can't find a job, get any documentation, or even a copy of their SS card. In others words they are locked out of employment because they can't prove they are Americans.

The changes in the employment laws to keep illegals unemployed are affecting the Americans as well. Until the last few years it wasn't a problem proving who you are, but with tightened security in obtaining personal information about yourself you have to prove who you are.

Law enforcement usually knows about stolen identification and documentation, drivers license, credit cards, birth certificates, etc., but they will not use that information to help citizens regain their identity. A person who has had their identity and physical evidence of proof cannot stop a stolen credit card from being used because they can't prove who they are anymore. Without police help, ID theft laws are backfiring on the victims in getting and keeping jobs and their identity.

Great idea, let's open our borders to business also. Let anyone who wants to open a business here, do so. They won't have to have a license like those here now, they can use the name of any business they want without being sued, and they can sell for much less, because they don't have to pay taxes, we'll give them loopholes and entitlements to lure them here.

Sounds good to me, the American consumer will be in a win-win position, our economy will bloom, and we can dump some of these lazy businessmen that try to create artificial bubbles to make money.

It's time American business started being compassionate to the rest of the world and share in the wealth of this country.

12.00 an hour? Are you kidding? I will let all my friends who are out of work with degrees and my construction worker friends know that Little America pays 12.00 an hour. You can't find jobs when you have skills in 7tah that pay that high. Thanks for the tip. Americans out of work will be there shortly. Can you get them to publish that wage on Job Service and where you go to apply?

I do not believe that $12.00 per hour jobs are not being taken by Americans!

It wouldn't be acceptable to hire illegal aliens even if we didn't have a national unemployment rate of 9.1%. We're providing unemployment benefits to US citizens when these jobs would otherwise be available??

Maybe the $12 an hour job ought to be $15 an hour. Have you priced a night's lodging in this facility?

Jim, the wages won't rise. Each business has a certain margin that they must work within and they will fill those positions with the least pay they can manage. I am surprised enough to see the $12 rate for housekeepers-- bet that is Little America but you won't find that at Super 8 Motels. Most of the forces on wages are downward especially in those positions.

I've got plenty of friends, born and raised here in America, who would love a $12/hr job.

For just a minute I have to feel sympathy for the people who will no longer have a job.

Homeland Security has had a program called ICE IMAGE for years. You become a partner with them and they go beyond E-Verify to actually investigate the SSN given and look for bogus ID. And they find the illegals.
It is time-consuming because you must screen EVERY employee to avoid charges of discrimination.
This is a nice move by Grand.
On the other hand, the hospitality industry is showing its stripes by the comments made in this article.

"JBrady" Agreed! They SHOULD HAVE been detained and deported.

We also should have fines in place for the employers. For EVERY illegal found working there we impose a fine of $10,000 and the fines go into a fund to pay for unemployment compensation for those displaced.

So, all you people saying you have friends that will do these jobs, go ahead, put your money where your mouth is. The farming community of California made the offer to those with full citizenship to come work jobs there and even in a tough economy, they got few takers. And JBrady, Obama knows Utah is a lost state. Why would he seek publicity there? The Grand American is a big hotel.. in Utah. Outside the state, unless someone has stayed there, very few know about it.

This article misses the point: Grand America check all of their new employees through e-verify. Even if a new employee comes back as "undocumentede" Grand America can't fire them until the employee has gone through a 2 month appeal process. This is a National Problem. Don't blame the guys that are following Federal Law!
