The opening two week's results have led to more questions about both Syracuse and Skyline. The Titans wins have been close contests--last week's two point win over 3A Desert Hills was a virtual draw. Skyline is well coached (no doubt) but the Eagles were manhandled by 3A Hurricane the week before, 33-14. Skyline always gets grows stronger as the season goes on, so it's difficult to draw conclusions. Based on last season, both Syracuse and Skyline were among the better 5A programs. Perhaps the gap between the 5A and the better 3A teams is not that noticeable.
Teams like Pine View and Spanish Fork can give some of the better 5A programs a run for their money. Dixie and Hurricane are also tough. One of the best game's last year was when Pine View took Highland to the brink. Overall, sure 5A is significantly stronger but some of these top tier 3A teams are pretty good.
Eagles D responded well. We will get better with each week. I guarantee a Skyline victory this week, along with the last week of the regular season! That's right, I said it!
Syr with a 2 point edge over a 3A team and squeaks by a 4A team? Not looking good when they play 5A teams the rest of the year. But, hey you can always look ahead for Weber.
