I can't believe this Powell family. How could he not be guilty when he won't help the police? Will his children ever recover from this? I hope this terrible tale ends soon for Susan's family's sake. This is heartbreaking.

"I'd say the WVC police did what they intended to do, persecute and harass and lie. "

If that's what it takes to catch a killer and bring a mother's body home to her family then they have the blessing of the vast majority of Utahns.

When dealing with a killer the gloves should come off.

I think there is a lot of LDS cultural mixup here. A Mormon goes to his Bishop and confesses major "sins". The police use this ideal and expect the same "cooperation" principla "so the truth will be known".

The fact of the matter is that the police not only don't have the right to that level of cooperation. The mixing of cultural standards flies right in the face of "the right to remain silent". My advice in many years of criminal trial work was to advise both all clients to tell the police nothing.

As a matter of fact I never asked the "did you do it" question.

So there was a warrent, Why does the Desret News have so much Information on Private files that was the property of the Powells.
The Judicial Systen is way out of line in just busting doors down and taking private property.
It seems we have the 5th to protect us and this raid over throws the right to claim the 5 th.
Really the intire case should be thrown out, We don't need to furnish information to prosecute ones self.
I suggest they have nothing anyway, Just a big show.

If Josh were innocent, he would be as convinced as everybody else that she was taken against her will and was most likely murdered. He wouldn't be trying to make the case that she ran off with somebody. That's what a guilty person would say in an effort to deflect attention on himself as the killer. If Josh were innocent, he would believe his father's statements about having an inappropriate relationship with Susan, and then he would logically realize that his children are not safe with a guy who doesn't respect normal sexual boundaries. But Josh knows his dad is putting on a front and making up stories in order to deflect blame on Josh. If Josh were innocent, he would tell police exactly where and when and why he took that rental car on a mysterious trip shortly after Susan's disappearance. And he would discuss in detail where he supposedly camped on one of the coldest December nights in the past decade with his poor little kids. He also would let police interview the kids to verify elements of his story. I think Josh is as guilty as sin, and I expect to see him convicted someday.

Does anyone remember the Fifteenth Century Witch hunts? You start with the premise that someone is a witch and then set out to prove it!

Law Enforcement (not unlike Central European militarily poised ethnic cleansing police) are simply out to "make a case", and the persons of interest should be making as few statements as possible-- every statement will be stacked against them.

If this weren't so tragic, it would be funny. So many who comment speak for the "public" as though they knew the mind(s) of the public. So many watch interviews with Josh Powell and see guilt. So many seem to know what happened to Susan Powell.

I am one of the "public," and I'd like to go on record that I don't know what happened to Susan Powell. When I watch interviews with Josh Powell, I see confusion and emptiness; maybe even stupidity. I don't know whether Susan Powell is victimized, dead, fled, abused, or flirtatious. To sum it up; I don't know much of anything about the Cox family or the Powell family. I can't figure out how the rest of you members of the "public" know so much.

This I do know: There doesn't seem to be much charity in the Powell family, in the Cox family, or in the public comment board. May a kind Heavenly Father soften the hearts of all.

You both hit the nail on the head. You really can see it on Josh's face. What is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul. I would like to know what Josh's brothers and sister in the house know and the estranged sister know. And if Josh was a real person and my father said those things about my wife, I would get out of there.

Oh come on I am a father of four kids and the last thing that I would do in December is to take 2 kids under the age of 6 out camping in sub 10 degree temps. So his story for that night and the next day just does not wash. He didnt even make arrangements to take off work the next day. I have also been out to Simpson springs it is not a place I would go to camp unless I had dirt bikes or four wheelers.

Why go all the way to Simpson Springs, He could have stopped at Lookout, Five-mile Toplift, or even Sunshine Canyon. If he was coming out by way of Tooele, he could have stopped at that fishing lake south of town. I don't think I would go all the way to Simpson Springs,on a very slippery road,in the middle of the night. Makes me wonder if this guy might be lying.
Has to be awful for the kids, they may know something that they cannot tell, as long as they are in that house. To bad someone couldn't get them out and talk to them. I wonder if that police lady may have been there(at the house during the search) for that very reason,it can be amazing what children remember.

I'd say the WVC police did what they intended to do, persecute and harass and lie.

Why would a judge allow for a secret search warrant for a crime that may not have been committed? What the WVC police have done is an illegal search and seizure truing to "create" a crime consistent with their inventive desires.

As for the police using this lie about Josh not cooperating, he has cooperated to the full extent of the law and his rights. The WVC police do have his statement interviews and questioning but they don't like it when a person declines to torture and weatherboarding investigations.

Everyone in Utah has been persuaded by the news media and law enforcement that Josh has committed a crime but no one is quite sure what it is yet, may with all the computers and carry out confiscated materials the WVC police can come up with something to prosecute someone for so they can save face with their cheap carnival investigation.

    Steve Powell:

As graphically close as you think your relationship with your daughter-in-law was, you could be the one then that holds the key to getting her back. You've made it clear that she wants you, so why haven't you been using the national media to ask her to come back to you? What do you know, Steve, that would make that so impossible that even hearing your love songs wouldn't melt her heart and bring her to you? What is in that out-of-touch brain of yours - because for the life of me, (bad choice of words) I can't figure out what is there. And why doesn't your incredible clone son punch you for saying such things about his wife? Awkward.

When Josh Powell is shown on TV, he has a peculiar expression on his face. It is a look of pain and guilt. Some say that our life is reflected on our face, well, his is a face that is hiding some terrible deed. I reflect on the neighbor he visited the day after Susan went missing. She said that his hands were all scratched up--well, digging a grave in the snow would do that to you.
And of course, he says he went to Tooele, but where did he really go that night?

Josh Powell has no credibility. No sane person takes two small children camping in the middle of the night. I have been to Simpson Springs. Just an isolated campground on the pony express trail. Maybe a fun historical sight. Not a place to take children winter camping. As far as the dad to go public that he had a relationship with his daughter-in-law. Something is very wrong here. It appears the Powell family is doing everything to make Susan look like she is unstable. I don't buy it and neither does the public. I think the police are on to something and the Powell's are scared and in a panic mode. This tragedy can't come to a conclusion fast enough.

This is possibly going to be OJ Simpson all over again. They can't get Josh or Steve on Murder without a body, but they can send these two slime-balls to prison for a very long time if there is Kiddie porn on that computer. Then the children can go to a decent home. And it is sounding like with the sex obsession in that household there is a better than good possibility. They should soon be able to get all the interest and attention they are craving, but from the wrong people.

Chuck Cox and his wife are living every parent's worst nightmare, and then some! To have their daughter VANISH, and then have the Powells purposefully slandering them in a nationwide media and internet campaign....it has to hurt them to the very core. I'm truly sorry Mr. Cox. Although it hurts to hear them broadcast lies about your daughter, you need to sit back and allow it, and almost be grateful for it. Because the public can SEE THROUGH the vicious lies, AND, as they say, you need to allow the fool to hang himself. Keep S & J Powell talking, it's like giving the fool enough rope. Some journalist needs to interview the people that Susan Powell worked with. They would be very good at discounting the slander against Susan Powell from her father-in-law about being flirtatious. They would have been the only people around Susan more than Josh and they would have certainly seen if she was flirtatious. I'm willing to bet her co-workers would disclose that she was neither flirtatious nor giving any indication of arranging meetings with another man but that Susan only wanted to get away from Josh Powell who was allegedly controlling and even allegedly abusive.
