Welcome to government run medical care.

I'm not a Dr. but difficulty breathing combined with a recent fracture is clearly indicative of a possible pulmonary embolus. I wonder how the Drs missed this? My father-in-law has gotten excellent care at the VA, including surgery on his brain from a torn blood vessel from a fall. This case doesnt appear to meet the standard of care one should expect. My condolences to Chris' family.

I am having flashbacks with how my brother died; this is exactly how my brother died. Over six years ago my brother had a non-combat related accident. The incompetent doctors at Fort Bliss botched my brothers back surgery. My brother retires from the army, then comes to the VA hospital here in Salt Lake. The doctors here gave him a grocery bag of medicine. He died on my parents couch waiting for an appointment that was for later on in the day after many visit to the VA during that week. My dad found him unresponsive. Too bad my parents cant join in this lawsuit. Im sure the statute of limitation has run out. I am sure there are many more that can share a similar story about the VA hospital here in Salt Lake.

Hmmm... agreed. Fine example of how Obama care would work.

better example of obamacare is IHC, Indian Health Care. They run out of funds by June every year and there are only 3.5 MM indians in the country. o is going to take on 350MM US citizens. Good luck. Fortunately, it will be overturned by the Supreme court. All the best in your suit and condolences on our great loss of a true patriot.

I've heard 'not so good' stories of treatment at the VA. My brother can go there but his daughter, who is a nurse, will not allow it. Luckily he has other insurance he can use so she tells him who to go to. We all should have someone to watch out for us.

The VA is notorious for over drugging! This is clearly yet another tragic example. When are doctors going to learn that you DO NOT prescribe two antidepressants together (Celexa & Remeron in this case) unless you want to take a chance of Serotonin Syndrome where the patient dies of multiple organ failure? Add a pain killer to that & you multiply the chance of that potentially fatal drug reaction even more - something far too many of our returning troops & are dying from.

And when are doctors going to learn the you NEVER give an antidepressant to anyone with a head injury? But apparently the very large majority of doctors do not have magnifying glasses with which to read the microscopic print in a medication package insert because both of these practices remain common in prescribing antidepressants.

This family is lucky to have lost only one family member rather than all of them in a mass murder/suicide with that combination of drugs combined with the head injury! Google SSRIstories to see a database of cases with many similar tragic results.
