So very sad that trusting and innocent children have to suffer at the hands of such evil individuals. We can only hope that they now remain under the loving protection of good people and divine providence.
Warning: If you are married to a 13 Y O... I suggest you get a quickie divorce or you will find yourself in a cell next to Jeffs!
So where are these innocent young women now? I feel so mad that they are pushed into this life style and have to be subjected to something like this.
It's actually not THAT long ago, when legal age for marriage in most US states was 11-12, and in some states even 7.
For example, Joseph Smith's "teenage wives" were all of legal age, and marriage to 14-year-olds was not that rare at the time; polygamy was legally banned retroactively later.
I'm not defending Jeffs, who is obviously delusional, but I'm saying that we see 12 to 13-year-olds "hooking up" (euphemism for having sex without commitments) quite a bit. A frightening percentage of girls have had sex by the time they're 15.
Jeffs is a sick sick man. Some talk that it was recent ago that Joseph Smith did the same thing. If he did, 200 years ago to me is not recent. The laws, which I believe are good, are protecting young people which have (its been proven by many studies) a diminshed capacity to make coherent and responsible decisions on a constant basis and have been cajoled, coerced etc into believing that another person is in love with them. Take the Seminary (I am practicing Mormon) President in Utah County who groomed his girl to believe he was in love with her. Many close to him have talked about Jeffs thinking he is above all other peoples because they call him a prophet. Jeffs is a sick sick man. May he forever rot in the place where I think he is going to go.
