This will never work or have any real impact on any weather reports or forecasts. There is already a weather network that has been in place for over 50 years that has done as well as any mother nature substitute can accomplish.

I think this climate network assumes it can replace mother nature.

Unless this is an attempt to show the rest of the world what can and should be done, this is pointless (and expensive). Most of what will effect our climate will occur in the 94 percent of the planet that is outside of our country.

This is an Al Gore farce of misinformation. I don't believe for one second this information, being it can be be manipulated for any reason to fit anyones needs. It's like the boy who cried wolf,You tell it one to many times it gets suspicious. No I think things are better off leaving it as is and keep yo-yo's like Gore way out in left field!

Imagine a world where a few elites completely control the rest of the dupes who don't know nothin about the weather er the climate.

Would you trust "data" produced by rabid environmentalists who have an agenda to promote?

Yeah, I'd rather trust the climate data provided by radio talk show hosts and oil company scientists.

And we're able to do something about anything the weather does?! Let's spend the 1/2 billion dollars on something more productive, please . . . In times of economic turmoil and government (National Science Foundation) overspending, don't tell me we can't give this money back to taxpayers or pay down our national debt.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to spend money we don't have on a project that will produce no significant benefits. Other than that it sounds like a total waste! Anyone who thinks this is a worthwhile project needs to get busy raising funds for it and stop requesting taxpayers to fund another farce.

More knowledge is always better. And for business that are so dependent on prediction weather conditions, like agriculture, recreation, tourism, and transportation, it will likely pay for itself many times over.

Perhaps we can plan where and when to more effectively place windmills and solar panels and maybe also to prevent our reservoirs from under/over filling.

Coming up--an related cell phone app that tells you exactly how much sunscreen you need or what kind of wax to put on your skis.

I agree wholeheartedly. Saying no to such an incredible technological advance is like a near sighted person saying no to glasses.

Further, have the chair of this group based at Utah State is a great opportunity for the state to lead.

I thought the government already spent all our money and has nothing left to spend. No wait! This is from the money we have been paying too much of our tax dollars for the last couple decades on global warming. I bet they still have enough left over to buy China and to buy every American tickets to Disneyland and stay at a Hilton Suite and have airfare.

Oh good grief. The rabid climate deniers come out like moths under a street lamp as soon as the term "climate change" or "global warming" is mentioned. Many opinions? Yes. Informed? Hardly. If you don't think this information will be useful, take a look at the Lloyds of London website to see what they are doing to prepare for climate change. If you don't think this is a huge issue for the major insurers around the world, then you simply aren't paying attention. To David B and your reference to Al Gore: such a comment demonstrates how much you know about the issue, or in this case, how little.

Seems like the last round of comments said "Show us good science" and now any attempt to do some. Who knows, this might spin off into a nice commercial venture. There are a lot of places that pay good money just for good reliable weather information.

While the article is not enough in depth to decide whether this is a good project or a bad one, but it must have had some peer review to get an NSF grant.

Who knows, this may be the science that proves climate change doesn't exist !
