GoGetter Read Closely BYU will "WIN" for sure. Thanks for reading Thats All.
BYU DUDE,Don't say you will for sure win, it's just like claiming a
pre-season national championship or heisman trophy. After looking at how well
the cougies did last season and being beat up after your first few games, it's
not looking so likely (but I did not say impossible). But I suppose
if Utah beats them, they go 6-6 or less, etc. it was just another
"rebuilding year"?Face it, for you cougs it's always a
rebuilding year unless they win something. But now being Independent, they won't
win anything because they have no conference championship trophy to win.
National Championship hopes? Ha, not after a 6-6 season and with an unproven
Sorry for the repeat. Des-news told me my original comment was rejected, then
allowed it anyway.
Arm of Orion "Danger I would jsut like the point out that the
"improvement" BYU showed was agains the bottom tier of the MWC so that
is a dubious claim at best."And I would just like to point out
that part of that improvement BYU showed came against Utah, a team that they
came within 6 inches of beating on Utah's home field. Bottom tier of the MWC?
Arm of Orion "Danger I would jsut like the point out that the
"improvement" BYU showed was agains the bottom tier of the MWC so that

(apparently I need to say it again) coming within 6 inches of beating Utah on
their own turf. Some things are dubious, Danger's claim is not. Your's is. And with horrible typos.
Hedgie, The Jordan Wynn was hurt excuse ?Utah will leave
Provo with there 2nd loss in three Games.BYU has won 3 out of the
last 5, soon to be 4 out of the last six.
"And yet the Utes won. What does it say about a bYu defense that couldn't
beat a QB so injured he needed surgery a few days later?"hedgehog, did you know that Heaps was injured, too? The difference between an
injured Heaps and an injured Wynn was that Wynn needed to be pulled out while
one of the many reasons the Utes squeaked out the win was because Anae decided
not to go for the TD, which by almost every indication was almost a guaranteed
score (again, with an injured QB).------------------------------"Danger I would just like the point out that the
"improvement" BYU showed was against the bottom tier of the MWC so
that is a dubious claim at best." (with typo corrections)I
would like to point out that the improvement was as legitimate as can be.
Anyone who watched the season saw huge improvement. It was because the offense
finally got their act together and started clicking. Want proof? The receivers
will be a great example. How many passes did they drop in the first half (while
wide open, regardless of defense)? That was half the reason the offense
couldn't get a first down.
best of luck to the Y. They have a really rough road to start the season with
Mississippi State, Texas, OSU and Utah and will need to be healthy to have a
chance in any of these games. If they are able start this season how they ended
last season they will have a shot at winning all of the 4. Very important for
the Y to have a 10 or 11 win season as an independent. Anything less will be a
@PAC 12 loves U "And what has that National Championship done for
byu?......Exactly!" It's gotten us exposure (10 games on the
ESPN networks this year) and relevance on the national scene. ESPN's VP of
Programming Dave Brown was quoted as saying that BYU has a national brand and
that the Cougars will always be successful. What have your two BCS
wins gotten you?A fallback into the PAC 12 (congratulations) which
is shown by the concessions the U had to make to get in (zero money first year,
gradual build up to full membership, Chris Hill pandering to the PAC 12
hierarchy, etc).1 game on ESPN2 this year, courtesy of the Cougs.1 game on Versus against USC(ironically, Utah's first ever PAC 12 game
is put on the MTN 2...you'd think that if people cared it would've been put on a
more recognized channel). In contrast, Colorado, with zero BCS wins
on its resume, has 4 games on TV this year, including an ESPN2 contest with
USC.In short, nobody outside of SLC cares that Utah is in the PAC
12, including, apparently, the PAC 12.But congrats on the AQ status
All these arguments are lame. The only thing that matters now between
the utes and BYU is the head to head game. PERIOD.Who did what last
year, or any time before (because in football, you're only as good as your last
game), or who stats are what, or who got what award in the off season is silly.
There is no way to compare the two. they don't play the same schedule, they
don't play the same teams. they only play each other. that is why it is the
only thing now that matters.I lived with BYU's defeat last year.
Even though I thought they played better almost the entire game. But they lost.
No excuses.I am also confident that BYU will beat utah this season.
(as will ASU)But I am willing to let them decide that on the
field. And live on...I just wish utah trolls would do the
Hedge! You don't get it. The utes won with the score, but lost the battle on
the field. An injured QB? The ute backup was experienced, and the Cougs had its
share of injuries also. Just see it as it is, and be honest about it! The Cougs
clearly outplayed the utes and will again this year.
Danger I would jsut like the point out that the "improvement" BYU
showed was agains the bottom tier of the MWC so that is a dubious claim at best.
Hedgie's comments are getting sooooooo tired. Can't you come up with anything
new year after year? I'll eat my hat and anyone else's hat if Wynnie amounts to
half the QB Heaps will be. ANY Poote fan try to tell me Wynnie will be playing
in the NFL and Heaps will not. Come on try it. One hit from any NFL lineman and
Wynnie would disintegrate. Moses K. from Bingham is going to be a
stud at BYU!
"Either Heaps had great protection or the ute d-line was highly over

@starfarer"Second the only thing that matters is the head to

The better team lost. Lucky bounce of the ball and a bad no call from the refs.
Either Heaps had great protection or the ute d-line was highly over rated.
Two thoughtsFirst, to all the ute trolls. Have you ever lived
anywhere else? Followed any other team? Listen to their fans? BYU fans are no
different that fans of any team no matter how you try to paint them. Go over
seas, BYU fans are only a fraction of soccer fans throughout the world in what
they say about their team. So what? Why do you care? If A BYU fan, or player
says "we are aiming for a NC," why is it your job to tell them they
are insane? I thought you had a whopper of a deal with pac10.2, you're better
than us. Why even bother? It just shows who can't let go.Never read
a ute article, never cared. the only time I care about utes is when they post
stupid comments on BYU boards.IF you are so great. IF you are so
much better. IF you were so superior. IF you weren't so addicted to hating BYU,
you could leave it alone. But you can't.Second the only
thing that matters is the head to head game. Then we will see who is better.
"Meanwhile Heaps-as a true freshman on the road in both team's biggest
rivalry game-drove all the way down the field in the closing minutes to put his
team in a position to get the win"Jonny Danger,You
could subsitute the name Heaps with Wynn and this would be a accurate
description of wynns freshman year.
@Bleed Crimson "Hypes 0, Wynn 1 - enough said!"And
how well did Wynn play? Whitt even tried to pull him (you saw how well that
worked)...Meanwhile Heaps-as a true freshman on the road in both team's
biggest rivalry game-drove all the way down the field in the closing minutes to
put his team in a position to get the win. We didn't get the win, and I concede
that loss to you (and the officials). However, considering where BYU was last
year (rebuilding, 6 losses, unranked etc) and where Utah was (or thought they
were-ranked in the top ten at one point, etc) I'll take the moral victory and
hope for a real victory come September 17th.BYU won out the end of
their season (minus Utah-barely), showing massive improvement on both offense
and defense-although against inferior competition. Utah ended the
season...differently. I agree that those of us drinking blue cool-aide need to
wait and see it on the field, but at least our trajectory gives us reason to
afro14 said,"According to the Deseret News, The Y has the most
talent and depth at every position out of all the teams in the country."How ironic that Utah fans are actually the ones guilty of the hyperbole
they blame on Cougar fans!
@ PAC 12 loves U - Wouldn't a more accurate name be "PAC 12 settled for
U"? O ye benefactors of last resort desperation business deals.
@ truecoug1And what has that National Championship done for
byu?......Exactly! byu is still considered a non-aq school, even
with all your great accomplishments from your glory years.Go Utes!
"According to the Deseret News, The Y has the most talent and depth at
every position out of all the teams in the country."afro,I read the article and couldn't find anything that would lead me to believe
that. Please provide a quote from the article. Your comment is proof that Utah
fans get bent out of shape over a simple article about BYU's defense.
That's a wicked D. Cougars have a lock on that Armed Forces Bowl.
According to the Deseret News, The Y has the most talent and depth at every
position out of all the teams in the country. I expect to see a good defense
with strong linebacking, an alright line, and a mediocre secondary. The offense
will have a good QB and a pretty good run game, and at least one big play
receiver, most likely Hoffman. All things considered, BYU is likely to win 9 or
10 games and end up ranked somewhere between 20 and 25 at the end of the season.
They won't go undefeated, Jake Heaps will not win the Heisman, the
defense will not be great, though it will be good. In short, this will be
another cookie-cutter BYU football season, including all the hype in the
preseason, a lot of talk from the fans, a nail-biter of a game with Utah, and
probably a cute little motto having something to do with independence printed
out on a lot of t-shirts.
@PAC 12 loves UTwo words...National Champions.'Nuff said
@bleedcrimsonThings will be a lot different this year...for one your 12th
man won't be our Offensive Coordinator who had the greater hand in last years
victory than Wynn could come up with on his own. Heaps will prevail and your
defense will actually look worse than the frailty and the porosity that
permeates the Utes O line. That alone is going to be a huge problem for the utes
to overcome in the PAC this year. Can't wait to watch the mayhem... especialy
at Memorial Colliseum...
"The Ute D-line is better than last year. Expect added pressure from the
DE's."Hedge"@thebigsamoan... Just when I have lost

and makes sense. Thank you sir! You are a diamond in the rough."
ZelphExistsZelph,Don't worry, Utah has their fair share of pie
in the sky fans.
@utahcountyuteThank you for sharing the statistics. The only relevant
fact one can gain from looking at your statistics is that BYU has had the better
defense in 3 of the last 5 years. I'm sure you remember from your statistics
class that you can't average, averages and come up with any statistic that is
meaningful. But I do appreciate you pointing out that BYU has had the better D
in 3 of the last five years. After 2011, it will be 4 of the last 6 years.
@ Hedggie"The Ute D-line is better than last year. Expect added
pressure from the DE's."Yes! They may reach average. Talking
about hypes---you're the master.
MussUupBetween Utah and byU, who has consistently had the better

bigsamoan,I agree with you 100%. On paper BYU looks to be very good on
defense, but until they start playing football, none of us can know just how
good they will really be. I hope they are as good as advertized, but the realist
in me says that we just need to wait and see.
Fangupo transfered to BYU?!? He was a beast at SC... and with Manumaleuna,
Kaumatule etc. looks like the Y has some depth. But for Utah Star Lotulelei
looks bigger and stronger than ever and Shelby is good & experienced and
shall we never forget about the Krugers! so I will have to say: BYU D-Line =
Utah D-Line. Yupp Equal.
Tom in CA and Worf,Us Utah fans hear outrageous predictions like
yours (41-10 and 52-10) from tons of byu fans every single year. When is the
last time byu beat Utah like that? I honestly don't remember. However, I do
remember the last time Utah thumped byu pretty good. 2008 48-24 and 2004 52-21.
Please keep predicting the blowout losses for Utah because your
biased view on these two schools is going to be wrong every time.
Nice depth and talent acrossed the board on defense, front seven will be key.
They need to get alot of pressure on the QB to help out a young but very

DE's.The so called "sieve" only gave up 16 points to the
"high octaine" Hypes last year and yet you expect to triple the points
this year.....ok (LOL).In all honesty I don't expect hypes to even
be playing in the game against Utah....Texas will put him in a shoulder harness
for the year.
The ute over rated d-line was a sieve against TCU, Notre Dame, Boise State, etc.
This game won't even be close. Cougs 52-10.
h-hog, kamute, & utahcounty ute:You three make me yawn. 17 Sept can't come soon enough. 41-10 Cougars.

@ utahcountyute How many ute QBs have won a Super Bowl?
utahcountyute,"Besides, I would take the best defense over the

never had the best defense. EVER. Utah was able to see what a real
defense looked like in the "biggest game in Utah football history"
last season. TCU (who had the top ranked defense) held Utah to 7 points ( Which
was scored on the 3rd team), while Utah's "best defense" gave up 47
points.2010 Team total defensive rankingsBYU-#24Utah-#27Hahahahahahaha thats gotta burn a little.
BYU football. Winning off the field an losing on it.
Please Cougar fans, let's tone down the rhetoric. I for one am sick of pre
hypes and the constant chest pumping before each season starts. It's wonderful
to hear both the O and D lines are having some great talents, and I pray they'll
be wildly successful. But I'm just tired of the constant ridicule and endless
mocking we are often subjected to when all the hype don't pan out. "Speak
softly and carry a big stick" is still the best way to go about it. It's
always better to do a little bragging after we win then to brag first and ended
up getting kicked in the teeth. Go Cougs! Go Utes, in all your games except
@utahcountyute "Your current QB hasn't done jack so there's not much to
compare to:)"That's right, I forgot that Jordan Wynn has done
SO much more in 2 years than Jake Heaps has done in 1 (roll my eyes). Not sure why Utes are crowing so much about their D line being better than
BYU's. Obviously we'll wait to see how it turns out in the season, but there's
as much talent at D line this year at BYU as at Utah. Watch for Tuiloma this
year...guy's gonna be a beast! I also wouldn't be surprised if BYU put Loni
Fangupo at D End to spell Putnam and Manumaleuna...they did that for a few
series during the spring game and he did a great job.Anyhoo, should
be a fun season.@utahcountyute3 out of 5, Harline is
STILL open (you'd think somebody would cover him by now), Collie on 4th and 18,
and Andrew George...oh the list goes on and on.Go Cougars!
Woops, I meant, they comment way more on BYU articles than they do on Utah
Can't wait until Sept 17 to shut up all these arrogant Ute fans. Truly little
brother in every sense of the word. Ute fans read more BYU articles than they
do BYU articles (at least they comment more on the BYU articles)
MussingYour current QB hasn't done jack so there's not much to

"best" QB any day. Can't wait till Sept 17th.2
out of 3, scoreboard and BLOCKED!Go Utes!
Re: KamUteThe same "paper bag" defense your tearing down
made your team look silly last year. 17 points? What will defenses that are
actually good do to your team this year?
utahcountyuteUtah's defensive line will have to play against BYU's
deep and talented offensive line; whereas, BYU's defensive line will have to
play against Utah's paper offensive line.Advantage: BYUbtw, take a look at BYU's QBs and you get an idea of what U never have been
and never will be at QB.
Utecounty, I agree. I can only imagine the adjetives dick
would be using if bYu actually had a D-line like the Utes. No doubt he would be
talking multiple National Championships with the real possiblity of not giving
up a single point this season.
Look at Utah's D Front and you get an idea of what byU's defense could be some
Cont.Heaps vs. Wynny = It's actually sad how bad the QB situation at
Utah is. Wynn would be third string at BYU. P.S Don't quit after
losing to BYU like the Ute's did against BSU in the Vegas Massacre.
HH and KU, slow day on Utah articles, can't find anyone over there. Got to admit the d line is looking better than they have in some time. With
the o doing what it does, a good defense will make the y very good. I won't go
so far as to say an nc, but they will win a lot more than they loose. Mark it
down. Hope the u does good, as well as the aggies. Need the exposure
to bring all the programs up with national attention on ESPN. Should help
Yawn, same old story. Paper bag defense. Lots of exposure, Worlds
greatest football team. Most history. Everyone loves the Cougars. Heisman
trophies year after year. National championships every other year. What else?
BYU Defense could be really good this year!! Hebron Fanguapo will be really
good, transferring to BYU from USC. Go Cougars!
Wow, with a defense that's better than anyone has seen in decades, Heiseman QB,
fastes Wr in the nation.....Y isn't the Y a top 20 team?Same
preseason story year after year after year.
Don't forget Kona Schwenke and Hau'oli Jamora, the two four star DE's from
Hawaii that de-committed last minute in 2009. It wouldn't have hurt to have them
in reserve this season.
No doubt this makes for even more anticipation to the upcoming season. I am
proud of the defensive players mentioned that have maintained good standing with
the University and the Honor code, way to honor your word. Now go out there and
beat some Ole Miss, Texas and Utah heads in. I can wait to see it.
The D line is the heart and sole of the defense. My hope is the 3 down lineman
will lead the team in tackles. Remember the D line of 1985? Three down lineman
and they led the team in tackles. These guys on the D line with their depth and
talent can do so again. First game is 5 weeks from today (Saturday in AK). Go Cougars.
We know the D line and LBs are talented, experienced and deep. Hopefully Fuga
and Pendleton will be at 100% when practice begins next week. Count on the
front seven to be solid and anchor the defense. These are the type of defensive
players we need to be able to compete with teams like Texas. The
DBs are talented and faster than historical BYU DBs, but they are inexperienced.
If the DBs come together and execute at a high level, this could be the best
defense BYU has ever had. We know Bronco will get the most out of them. I'm espicially anxious to see how Preston Hadley and Joe Sampson
perform. Sampson may end up being the fastest player on the team. This is the
first time I've ever been excited about BYU's defense.
It's just tough for BYU to recruit D-Lineman because of the scheme. Because of
the defense having a 3-man front, let's be honest, the defensive line in a 3-4
isn't really used to rush the quarterback, but mainly to stop the run and eat up
blocks so that the linebackers can make all of the plays. The defensive ends
have a chance to be playmakers at times, but they mostly have to be content with
being role-players in the defense instead of playmakers. That doesn't make them
any less important, but it probably means it is less fun. Mendenhall has still
recruited excellent players there though. I hope the d-line continues to do well
because they are still an important position group in the 3-4.
Depth at every position on Defense. Offense is in pretty good shape also. BYU
has the potential to have a very good year. One more month. Go Cougars!
I hope the D proves to be the strength of the team this year, that would mean
the Y would have a great year. Go Cougs.
