I think it is more likely that many of them knew that was their ticket off the jury.
Recently, several "Nancy Grace type" programs have graced the airwaves, educating audiences about all that goes on with the Fundamentalist LDS in Utah and in Texas. Could be somewhat uncomfortable for modern traditional LDS, as these television programs continue to discuss the LDS scriptures, particularly the one that glorifies Plural Marriage in this life(no longer practiced by modern LDS), and the exaltation of Plural Marriage after death "in the kingdom in the next life."
This is the stuff Mitt Romney and other LDS candidates, when questioned, are going to have to discuss, as well.
Most voters have a difficult time understanding plural marriage, not to mention the marrying off of very young girls.
